OS X 10.9 Mavericks wallpaper available to download now

As ever with a new software release from Apple, comes at least one distinctive new wallpaper that make all the press shots. OS X 10.9 Mavericks is no exception, with its distinctive blue and green wave that pays homage to the Mavericks name. For those of us who fancy a little bit of the look without being in on the developer preview builds, the 5,120 x 2880 resolution image is available to download now from Apple at the source link below.

Here are your WWDC 2013 iPhone and iPad wallpapers in full on Retina splendor!

WWDC 2013 has been announced, and that means there's a logo and a lot of people trying desperately to read its tea leaves. Jokes on them -- logos don't steep well at all. What they do do, however, is look awesome on iPhones and iPads. So rather than try to measure the exact flatness of any of the gradients contained therein, I'm content to do what we usually do when these kinds of things come out -- make them into wallpapers.

iPhone 5 black out: Going dark on wallpaper

After using Twitterrific 5 for a only few hours, and its dark-as-in-black theme, I exited the the app and immediately found my default iOS wallpaper... distracting. So, I whipped up a solid black 1136x640 PNG file, saved it to camera roll, and applied to both my Home screen and Lock screen as a "wallpaper". And now I'm in love with the look. All over again.

Here's why...

Updated Apple iPad and Mac event wallpaper

Apple has put up some new artwork for their iPad and Mac event today, so we went ahead and made an updated, though still quick and dirty version for Retina wallpaper. It's 2048x2048 so it'll fit a Retina iPad perfectly. It'll also fit a Retina iPhone or iPod touch, just center it up and crop off the sides.

Apple iPad mini event Retina wallpaper

We've gotten a ton of requests for an iPad Retina wallpaper version of the October 23 iPad mini event invitation, so I whipped this one together quickly. It's not great, more Photoshop trickery, less painstaking re-building of the original like I did for the iPhone 5 event wallpaper, but it's a little more complex and I need to get the iPod reviews done, so it's all I have time for at the moment.

I'm putting it up in the iMore wallpaper forum as well, so if anyone has any others/betters, please add them in.

Apple September 12 event wallpaper

Apple is finishing getting all the banners in place at Yerba Buena for the September 12 event where we'll likely see the iPhone 5 and new iPods. At first the Yerba Buena banners just looked like streams of color but an eagle eyes MacRumors reader noticed that tilted your head and squinted just so, Apple iOS icons were revealed within. More precisely, the Music, Safari, iTunes Store, Stocks, and Game Center icons had been stretched vertically, and in some cases flipped over, to create the background. Make of that what you will.

For my part, I took a couple hours this morning to play around and see what I could do with those same icons, and the result is below in convenient iOS wallpaper form (2048x2048 so it'll fit everything from your Retina iPad on down).

iMore will be providing complete coverage, color, commentary, and context throughout the week, of course, and kick it into overdrive on Wednesday (until we look as stretched, color-shifted, and motion-blurred as some of those icons!)

Meanwhile, touch and hold the image below to save it to your iOS device Camera Roll, then jump into Settings,Brightness & Wallpaper, Wallpaper, Camera Roll, and set, scale, and crop it just exactly how you like.
