Apple "It's only rock and roll, but we like it" iTunes and iPod Music Event is on for September 9!

Apple's annual iTunes and iPod Special Music Event has just been made official, and this year's bash will be called "It's only rock and roll, but we like it", with the date confirmed for Wednesday, September 9 at 10am PT/1pm ET at the Yerba Bueana Center for the Arts Theatre in San Francisco, California.
TiPb will be providing a full meta live-blog as usual, and we'll be following it up at 5pm PT/8pm ET with our full analysis on iPhone Live!
Widely expected to be seen are iTunes 9 with social networking and iPhone app management, 3rd generation iPod touch with camera, and iPod nano and iPod classic with with camera to be in the lineup.
"Cocktail" album packages, the perennial Beatles on iTunes rumors, and of course iPhone OS 3.1 are also in the cards. And MMS on AT&T pretty please?

WHAT ????
You guys are not invited ???
LOL. ooopsssss , sorry. I couldn't help.
Seriously..... Apple is sooooo wrong. -
I don't think beatles music will be on iTunes yet... They wouldve called the event something reminiscent of a beatles song :P
-
ima be so upset if i dont get MMS on my phone i mean seriously the summer is over if you ask me lol
-
Well The Beatles Rockband edition is hitting video game stores that same day. Maybe iTunes will carry the sound track of the video game thereby making The Beatles available on iTunes.
-
@iblackdude:
Perhaps TiPb invite has gone missing because in the last several months the tone of the blog has gotten progressively more critical of Apple as the fanboyism wears thin and the exasperation builds.
Or maybe Rene is just fishing so he can write off a trip to California on his Taxes.... -
Agreed, I'm on week 2 of classes. Summer is over AT&T. Time for you to buck up like I do for you every month!
-
Please let this END the long wait for MMS coming to AT&T. If MMS does not come out on 3.1, I think most us will be pretty pissed off. The kids are back to school summer is OVER pretty much. By 9/9/9 summer is OVER in my book.
-
@icebike of course. Rene needs a vacation from TiPb. But as soon as his plane lands in California he's back on the job.
-
Someone pleas tell me why the beatles aren't already on iTunes in the first place
-
@Hakala
The nearly 3 decades of disputes over the use of the trademarked name "Apple" might have contributed to it in the past:
http://bit.ly/VXisT (wikipedia article on Apple Corps vs Apple Computer)
That dispute was finally resolved in 2007. It could be that the 9/9 event will announce the Beatles entrance into iTunes, since that is also the release date for remastered CDs and the Rock Band set, but earlier Reuters articles said that discussion involving digital distribution of the Beatles catalog was still "ongoing." -
Alas, 'tis Dieter's turn to travel should the occasion arise. Edited post, we'll see.
-
@fassy:
It's not just iTunes that doesn't sport Beatles online. They aren't available on any online download service. Word has it that it has something to do with complex copyright ownership conditions.
But I bet Spotify will show up on the 9th. -
I see. I see. Hm..
-
Sept 9 ... iTunes 9 ... co-winky dink? I think not..
-
@Hakala:
Someone pleas tell me why the beatles arent already on iTunes in the first place
Because Michale Jackson (and now his estate) does not want to make them available. (Yet). -
I'm waiting just like all of you for MMS but I had this theory today that it won't be unveiled at the event as much as I hope it will. Reason being, if is was coming this soon, AT&T would know about it. AND, if AT&T knows about it wouldn't they want to tout that in materials and on their website to get them off the hook as soon as possible? Unless Apple has required secrecy on their part, I'm thinking that we would know already if it were going to come in the next two weeks. That's my thought anyone have another theory?

@iBlackdude
I couldn't help too, but I must say I hate people like you. -
@Al
I hear you, but I'm still holding out hope.
Saturday my girlfriend asked me to take a pic on my iPhone and send it to our daughter. I told her I couldn't, so I had to do it on her Samsung Glyde. What a disgrace!
Two quotes from Miracle on 34th Street keep my hope strong for MMS on 9/9/09:
"Faith is believing when common sense tells you not to."
"I believe... I believe... It's silly, but I believe." -
@Tom: What do you mean you can't take a picture and send it with your iPhone. I do this all the time, ever since I got my 1st generation phone two years ago.
-
I typed in Google Search, "It's only rock and roll, but..." and then I noticed that it auto completed the search with "it's only rock and roll, but i like it" so I searched it. It came up with a song with that title by the Rolling Stones. Does anybody think this might have something to do with it? Maybe a theme or an era of music. I know there is speculation about The Beatles' music but the Rolling Stones is already on iTunes. Hmmmm.
-
What he means is send the pic via MMS (text message with media). Yes you can send photos via email since day one but in this case perhaps his daughter doesn't have a phone that supports email. Also on a lot of phones, receiving an MMS text is easier than going into email to see the pic.
As for AT&T support by the 9th, we're doubting it but could be surprised. -
I still have my doubts about the nano and especially the classic getting cameras. Guess we'll see.
-
I know it's not strictly music related, but I sure hope Apple has something to say about MMS / Tethering as this will likely be their last big announcement before "end of summer." If AT&T is still not ready, I hope they at least publicly humiliate them like they did at WWDC.

I Have a relative that works AT&T pretty high up. He overseas a certain region/ zone. I talked, or tried to talk in depth about the mms issue and dodged every bullet fired at him. To the point where my questions, opinions were a bit over the line. As it wasn't his fault. He used some 8000 series RIM stateing security is why he didn't use the iPhone and most companies felt the same currently. I told him I am going to write a note that I would like him to turn into his superiors. He laughed, as though I was joking. I took a crayon (orange) and wrote ...
AT&T,
Flip the stupid iPhone switch!! This has gone on long enough!!!
Thanks,
Your pissed off customer
He read it and laughed.
I told him... No, I mean it. Tell me where this "switch" is and I'll flip it myself. No matter where I have to drive. He then stated.. "yeah, they're working pretty hard and have alot of work to do to finish." From what he had heard. This just doesn't fly to me. Why would a company use a different way to transmit data from different manufactured phones to the next... Example nokia one way. Rim another, iPhone another. Radios are radios. If this isn't the case. Then why would a service provider make it so it has to enable mms and tethering on each line acctivated? Ohhhh, money. Keeping tabs on each line to insure charges reflect usage. This is bullsnit!!! Glad I'm at least jailbroken and unlocked. Although, tmobile and verizon charges more for actual usage that I have witnessed and the phones still stink. I have the tethering hack on my phone and the 3g unrestrictor app to allow skype, YouTube HQ, and slingbox to run over 3g network, though mms is not working and now I don't even get those stupid view my message texts anymore for some reason. I use about 8gb a month in data usage. Is that really a big deal??? If everyone was, YES. But the wife doesn't even use 1gb most months. So it should still average out. Informative rant over!!!! -
@Huh
@mobilephotovideo
Yes I meant via MMS, not email. -
I think THE BEATLES on iTunes really might happen: I don't think its purely coincidental that THE BEATLES: ROCK BAND comes out on the same day this event takes place
