When the iPhone X was released, there was more talk about the notch than there was Face ID, Animoji, and the lack 'o homebutton.

Lots of people either really didn't mind the look of it, while others were nit-picking the notch from the minute Apple unveiled it at their September event.

If you're someone who isn't #teamnotch, there are actually a few different ways you can hide it with the help of a third-party app — so here's how to hide the notch on your iPhone X!

Notchy

Get a li'l bit notchy up in here and say goodbye to your iPhone X's notch with the help of the app, Notchy (did I say notch too many times? Notch notch notch-ity notchnotchnotch).

This free app gives you a full selection of custom-made iPhone X wallpapers that cleverly hide and mask your iPhone's notch. The high-quality images range from stunning nature photography, to experimental long-exposure shots, to black and white images, to even an option that allows you to create your own wallpapers using the app:

All you need to do is apply the specific fade effect to your specific photos, tweak the image so it masks the notch completely, and you're good to go!

It's worth it to note that your notch will be seen when you're using apps, but while you're in home screen/lock screen mode, your notch will be invisible.

Notcho

Free, simple to use, and dedicated to hiding your iPhone X's notch, Notcho is an app that helps your notch disappear.

Notcho alls you to import any photos or images and then automatically turn them into notch camouflage. The app even offers up dozens of wallpapers that you can choose from if you don't want to import any of your own images!

While the app itself is free to download, it is worth noting that there are watermarks on the images, and in order to get rid of 'em, you do have to make a $1.99 in-app purchase, which isn't ideal, especially when you can easily get the same thing for free.

Are you #teamnotch or #teamnonotch?

Are you someone who's been super bothered by the look of the notch? Or do you not really care about it at the end of the day?

  • Seriously, I have no idea why that notch bugs people so much. Tune it out. We have higher brain function!
  • Yes, exactly. Doesn't bother me at all. Don't notice it most of the time. Yes, even looks cool on my home screen. In other words, much ado about nothing.
  • People want to find anything to moan about, this is the day and age we live in. The iPhone X is a fantastic phone and the notch is a miniscule and totally trivial compromise, the only people that care are the people who haven't even properly tried one
  • Why would anyone spend over 1k for a device with a feature on the screen that would irk them to the point that why would try to hide it? The iPhone 8 Plus is a highly capable device. Just buy that one.
  • I doubt that many people who own an iPhone X are moaning about it. These apps are for the few, not the many.
  • I am most definitely #teamnotch, lol. I am embracing the heck out of this thing. Certainly Apple could have just made a huge ugly bezel strip across the top of the phone like everyone else did, but if you don’t need bezel on the top corners, why not use the screen space to display always-on info like the clock, wifi, cell service and battery level? I’m even watching media in full screen mode, with the notch in the image and all, just so I can maximize the screen space and enjoy those awesome corners! 😎 It is, of course, completely optional to use the corners of the display for videos and media, and now it seems it is also optional for wallpapers. No need for anyone to be upset over it.
  • I’m with ya. #teamnotch! Sidenote: I wish you could comment on articles in the News app! I had to open the article in safari then request desktop. Back to the notch. Its like a signature of the display for me at this point.
  • My iPhone X must be different than some.
I don’t have a notch, mine has extra useable screen in the top two corners.
Between these two extra screen areas there is some very amazing hardware.
The other bonus from the extra screen area is that the info that would normally be across the top of a phone is now up and out of the way on the extra screen space. That’s a huge plus, it keeps that info out of the work area.
I just wonder why other phones haven’t figured this out.
  • Looks like Team Notch wins.
  • I am certainly #teamnotch :)
  • I'm just annoyed with having to swipe from the right ear for Control Center. It's too much of a stretch one-handed (probably even worse for lefties) and you sometimes bring down Notifications by mistake. Give us a better way to do that, Apple!
  • Definitely bad for lefties like me. I'm sure Apple will come up with a better way, they'll have their thinking-caps on.
  • I definitely have no qualms with the notch. Doesn’t bother me in the least. However, I also think it’s cool that you can “hide it” with some of these wallpapers, so I guess I go both ways.
  • And there's nothing wrong with going both ways, right?
