The Messages app got a complete overhaul in iOS 7 and the changes weren't limited to just visual ones. One of the best new features of the Messages app is the ability to view all images you've received and sent in a thread in one easy to access place. Here's how:
- Launch the Messages app from the Home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
- Find the message thread that you'd like to view all the images in and tap on it to open it.
- Scroll through the thread and tap on an image that you've either received or sent.
- Now in the lower right hand corner, tap on the menu button to bring up a list of all images.
That's it. You can then tap into and view any image that you've sent or received from that person, or group of people.
As a side note, this view images screen only loads anything that's in the current loaded conversation. If you have lots of messages between you and that person, you can view even more images in that thread by performing these steps inside that message thread:
- Tap on the time in the status bar at the top of your screen while inside the message thread.
- Now tap on Load Earlier Messages.
Repeat the above process until you're either at the beginning of the conversation or until you feel the images you're trying to find would be contained in the loaded conversation. Then return to the view all images screen by tapping into any image and hitting the menu button again.

Awesome! Never knew we could do this, thanks for the tip, Allyson!
i'm happy imessage have eventually offered this simple handy feature in ios7.. a feature that has always been present in Whatsapp, an application I also use frequently.. unfortunately some of my iMessages now run into months (almost years) worth of conversation and pictures, and scrolling all the way to the top to find those early photos is quite time consuming.. i hope imessage can learn (borrow) even more whatsapp features for it's next overhaul - specifically, allow us see all our photos without a complete scroll to the very beginning of the conversation. This is a nice trick to know. Thank you!

Great tip thanks. I knew about finding an image and swiping through them, but seeing images all on one page is great. I also use Decipher TextMessage on my Mac. This app uploads all your messages and images in conversations, just like on the iPhone and it's a quick way to look through conversations without iPhone's Load Earlier Messages. It is also a great way to back up conversations; I've kept safe precious SMS's between Mum and I from before she passed away. Sent from the iMore App
Now if only there was a way to search all messages in a specific person's conversation thread. Or "Load All Messages". I'm a message hoarder, and have stuff from two+ years ago saved on my phone.
But looks like there is no easy way to delete in this view. When swiping between images in IMessage in iOS 6, there was a trash can at the bottom of each image.
This is not an option on my iPhone 5S running 7.0.2. Has everyone checked this out and confirms it's on theirs?
Yes, I have a 5s running 7.0.2 and following the instructions in the article worked for me. Sent from the iMore App
I got it to work on one texting window, but not any others. Odd.
Thanks for the tip Allyson. Sent from the iMore App
Nice tip! Thank you very much :-) Regards
Now if only we could fuse iMessage with Facebook Messenger, please? Make it my central IMing hub, please?
How can you do this in ios 8.1? I do not see the menu pop up option when I click on a photo - just the share menu.
