How to add and delete calendars on your iPhone and iPad

The Calendar app on the iPhone and iPad can keep track of all your events and appointments, all in one place. But it doesn't have to keep them all in the same calendar. If you prefer to keep your work life and personal life separate, or to have a specific calendar for kids activities, or a special vacation, or for anything else, you can easily do so. Since each calendar gets its own color, and you have the ability to hide or show individual calendars, it's a great way to stay organized and stay sane at the same time. Additional calendars are easy to setup, and if you ever stop needing them, they're easy to delete as well.

How to create calendars on your iPhone and iPad

  1. Launch the Calendars app from your Home screen.
  2. Tap on Calendars at the bottom.
  3. Tap on Edit at the top.

  1. Tap on Add Calendar...
  2. Give the new calendar a name and a color to represent it.
  3. Tap Done in the upper right hand corner.

That's it! Your new calendar is now available for you to start adding events to! When creating a new appointment, meeting, or other kind of entry, just choose your new calendar under the calendar section.

How to delete calendars on your iPhone and iPad

  1. Launch the Calendars app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap on Calendars at the bottom.
  3. Tap on Edit at the top.

  1. Tap on the calendar you'd like to delete.
  2. Tap on Delete Calendar. It's located all the way at the bottom.
  3. Tap Delete Calendar one more time on the popup that appears.

The calendar should now disappear as will all the events that were in it. Keep in mind that sometimes subscribed calendars and CalDAV subscriptions need to be deleted a different way through the Settings app. So if you don't see a delete button and that's what you're trying to delete, try through the Settings app just like you did to add the subscription.

  • In my calendar and reminders I have no button for edit or to add... Now what?
  • I'm having the same issue as you, I do not have the '+' button. I think it has something to do with the new IOS5. Try restoring.
  • One of my friends recomnend me using Safewiper iOS Eraser program to completely erase caendars from my iPhone 6 becuse the "deleted files" can be easily recovered. You msut erase them.
  • I use this default calendar app on my iPad however twice now (this happened again yesterday) all events have been randomly been deleted. All my dates have now been lost and despite all efforts cannot be recovered, if you google it this seems to be a common problem with varying levels of results in rectifying the problem. I'm now seeking to use an alternative.
  • Be very careful deleting iCloud calendars. Everything will disappear from all your devices and will not be recoverable. I realised this the hard way when deleting a calendar rather than just 'not showing' it last year. Sent from the iMore App
  • I'm having a difficult time. I can delete one calendar but after that the edit button literally disappears. I hope It's not lie the last time. A week ago, I wasps told by verizon that my iPhone was defective
  • Does NOT work. I have BOTH "Other" calendars and "iCloud" calendars that can NOT be deleted. Hmmm.
