Apple Special Music/iPod/iTunes/(iTablet?) Event Taking Place Sept. 8?

MediaMemo reports that multiple music industry sources have been informed that Apple’s annual Special Music Event, typically involving iPod and iTunes, will take place the second week of September — and since Apple usually holds these events on Tuesdays, that would make September 8 the day to watch.

Widely expected to be seen at the event is Apple’s third generation iPod touch, rumored to be getting a camera like it’s big iPhone brother, and perhaps the same “S stands for Speed” performance chipset. Chatter has also spread about the iPod nano getting a camera, as well as iTunes 9 speculation involving app organizing, Blu-Ray support, and social network integration. And let’s not forgot iPhone 3.1 we saw iPhone 2.1 last year, after all).

The two biggest mysteries will, of course, be whether or not Apple chooses to debut their near-deafeningly rumored iTablet at the event, or hold off for another event (annual MacBook event perhaps?) or next year, and whether or not a newly returned Steve Jobs takes once again to the keynote stage.

TiPb will, as always, provide ongoing coverage leading up to, during, and post event. (We can’t wait either!)

iTunes 9 and 3.1 dates for iPhone tethering prices and mms release date. Would be nice let’s hope

  2. Rene Ritchie says:

    D’oh! 3.1, thanks Gregg, added!

  3. JCALIFORNIA says:

    Mms better be out

  4. max710 says:

possibly announcement of The Beatles on itunes as well because their remastered cd’s and Beatles Rock Band come out the following day…

  5. Al says:

I just want iPhone 3.1, MMS and iTunes 9. Since I have an iPhone, I don’t care all that much about the upgrades that the Touch will get aside from a general curiosity. I won’t be buying any iPod whilst I have an iPhone. The iTablet intrigues me but I think that it needs to be primarily an e-reader solution made for students with textbooks. I think that is a severely underserved market by the Kindle and Sony readers. Those really can’t replace a true textbook but perhaps Apple, with book sales via iTunes, and tools made for students could really get a foothold in the education market. Any browser, wifi, 3G or apps and word processing would just be gravy. If it is simply a stripped down computer in a tablet form, no thanks. Also, if it is over $400 (I know, I’m cheap, but what student is going to drop the reported 700-900 on a tablet shaped computer? Answer: None of them!) no thanks! I do not see any reason to buy a $900 tablet computer when a MacBook Pro 13″ is only a couple hundred dollars more for a powerful, full-functioning computer.

  6. Chris says:

Hey Steve and friends at AT&T… where the F is my MMS? What happened to ‘late summer’? It’s August and we haven’t heard anything. If this is even announced with a BOOM like it’s some big exciting thing, I’ll be so frickin pissed.

  7. Truth says:

Looks no itablet until 2010 per engadget.

  8. daniel says:

This meeting will only be about the new ipod touch and itunes 9 nothing more nothing less.

  9. Daniel D says:

Maybe a comment that O2 will not be the only UK supplier of iPhone?
