12 Apps of Xmas

Apple has hit pause on their “100,000 apps for just about anything” ads, turned the other cheek on “can your network…?” counter-commercials, and debuted a new, merrier bit of marketing for the holiday season — 12 Apps for Xmas. Care to sing along?

On the twelfth day of Christmas my iPhone gave to me:

  • 12 cookies cooking
  • 11 cards a sending
  • 10 gifts for giving
  • 9 songs for singing
  • 8 bells for ringing
  • 7 slopes for skiing
  • 6 games for playing
  • 5 gold rings
  • 4 hot lattes
  • 3 flights home
  • 2 feet of snow
  • And an app that can light up the tree

Check it out on Apple.com. However, unlike previous commercials, other than Betty Crocker right at the top, individual app icons and titles aren’t shown but Apple’s “as shown on TV” page on iTunes should collect them up for us…

If you know any of the apps, however, please do point them out in the comments!

  1. Jailbroken 3GS says:

    This is gay!

  2. sting7k says:

What’s the app that can light up my tree?

  3. Trophias says:

Sting7k: I’ve looked around and I believe it is called iLinc.

  4. Cosh says:

    Nop…. is Schlage LiNK

  5. JeGra says:

This catchy marketing sells, and why the competition has a hard time cause Apple throws the Apps out all the time. The competion is tongue tied.

  6. fastlane says:

So very different than the DROID’s “scary” marketing.

  7. DjP says:

The Christmas Tree one is the one I was interested in… The previous two posts about this don’t look the same, so I don’t think it’s those… The second doesn’t seem to exist in the app store here in the UK…

  8. SheiknetChris says:

    7 ‘slops’ for skiing?

  9. Mischurke says:

Check this link (in German) for a list of the apps with app store links

  10. Kelly says:

I see the MyStarbucks app… and what almost looks like The Weather Channel app (but not sure).

  11. Stephen says:

One problem I always seem to have is I browse this website almost exclusivly in my iPhone, and most of the links out never work.

  12. Bruce says:

    12 – Betty Croker Mobile Cookbook – free 11 – Postman -2.99 10 a my Christmas Gift List – .99 9 – Tab ToolKit – 9.99 8 – Holiday Bells – .99 7 – Snow Reports – 1.99 6 – Christmas Fever – .99 5 – Anna Sheffield Jewelry – free 4 – my Starbucks – free 3 – Flight Search – free 2 – Wearher Pro – 3.99 1 – Schlage LiNK – free, requires hardware

  13. Bruce says:

The Schlage app is the app in use there, but there are X10 alternatives. A couple others aren’t “best in class”. But the handbells annoy the bejeesus out of the ex’s cat. I’d have paid $5 fir that.

  14. JKT says:

I call shenanigans on some of the other apps that are shown being paged past (but not launched). On the screen where the hand launches the Betty Crocker app, there are supposedly apps called “HJ” and “Snowman”. Neither can be found in the App Store.

  15. The weather app is called “weather pro” I’ve been using it for the past couple days in the uk and it seems pretty good

  16. Hakala says:

@JKT The reason for that is because the developer of the app can shorten the displayed name of the app on the homescreen to be abbreviated or renamed to make larger names fit. For example there could be an app called “The World’s Most Useless Christmas Gifts!” but seeing as that’s too long to be displayed and would appear as “The wo…ifts!” the developer could make the name “WMUCG” appear instead, which most likely wouldnt show up In a search for the app. Hope that helped!

  17. Courtney says:

I saw the app that turns on the Xmas lights and had to look it up. I found out it is called, Schlage LiNK.

    The company website says:

“LiNK is a home-management solution that allows homeowners to monitor and control features of their home through any computer and most Web-enabled mobile phones. It’s built on Z-Wave technology.”

You can read more about it here: http://link.schlage.com

I found that it can control your lights, thermostat, door locks and live stream security cameras on your phone. Not just the iPhone either.

You can read more about the app itself here: http://link.schlage.com/remote_management/Pages/MobileAccess.aspx

If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

  18. Nick apps says:

Hey, I found a mobile web portal at http://iApps4free.com with fun games to feel Christmas spirit for free (link accessible with iPhone and mobiles). There are for instance a christmas pics puzzle with magical pics and a fun tic tac toe “Santa vs. Deer”. And there are also plenty of other web apps and games for iPhone.

I enjoyed it so, I wanted to share ;-)
