Apple releases iTunes 10.5

As a precursor to tomorrows iOS 5 update and iCloud explosion, Apple today released iTunes 10.5 to the masses. Here's what's new:

iTunes in the Cloud. iTunes now stores your music and TV purchases in iCloud and makes them available on your devices anywhere, any time, at no additional cost.

Automatic Downloads. Purchase music from any device or computer and automatically download a copy to your Mac and iOS devices.

Download Previous Purchases. Download your past music, TV, app, and book purchases again, at no additional cost. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer on the iTunes Store.

Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5.

Wi-Fi Syncing. Automatically sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes any time they're both on the same Wi-Fi network.

For information on the security content of this update, please visit: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222.

If you're going to be updating to iOS 5 tomorrow, update to iTunes 10.5 today. (Jailbreakers, we don't expect any trouble but air on the side of caution and let others test the waters first.)

Everyone else, hit Software Update, and keep your browsers locked on TiPb for lots more iOS 5 and iCloud coverage!

  11. Mecca Jennifer says:

Any idea what time of day the iOS5 update will be releases?

  12. Jennifer says:

Anyone know what time the iOS5 update will be released??

  13. TheAndroid1 says:

Extremely buggy for me. I tried to play a trailer and it said that quicktime was required but was not supported for this version of iTunes. I then tried playing a preview of a song, when I tried to skip forward iTunes kept crashing. The betas were better than this version.

  14. Cell Bull says:

It’s advisable that you do update to iTunes 10.5 – especially if you plan to run iOS 5 when it’s released this coming Wednesday. It’s compulsory that iOS 5 users run this latest iTunes release, so if you want to be completely prepared, download and install iTunes 10.5. Download link is available at :

  15. DSA says:

So is music purchased on iTunes only going to show up in the cloud? What about when I buy a CD and rip it to iTunes? Will those songs not go wirelessly to my iPhone? Will it still take a manual sync to get those songs on my iPhone?

    • fastlane says:

For $25 a year, iTunes Match will keep all your ripped music (that is also available on iTunes) on iCloud. Any music you have ripped that is not sold on iTunes can be uploaded to iCloud.

Wow, that thing is buggy, and after all that Beta testing!

Installed 10.5 on Windows 7 x64. Now I have to double-click to select a playlist! Single-clicks either don't do anything or the cursor just turns into the "forbidden" icon, as if I tried to move it somewhere. The same goes for some library items (e.g. Music, Movies) while others (e.g. Podcasts, Apps) can still be selected by a single-click, like normal.

Anyone else having this issue or even a solution (except waiting a few weeks until Apple fixes it)? Thanks!

    • Maritn says:

standard practice for Apple to screw up the Windows version, I'm betting they still don't have keyboard media keys working properly

    • Dan says:

I'm having the exact same issue. It's very annoying - especially when you have a lot of playlists. What could possibly be the reasoning behind this? Apple screwed up big time with this release. Steve Jobs' legacy of simplicity has gone flying out the door.

  17. Kona2010 says:

There is one good side to being unemployed. I get news and updates first. I've already preordered my 4S from AT&T but I may go wait on line at an Apple store just for fun.

  18. Chadnewton says:

When will ios5 be released in the uk? midnight uk time, or midnight us time?

  19. Mike S. says:

I can't wait to get my hands on iOS5 already. What's the normal time range it gets released? I'm guessing it's like MS XBL, which is 2AM EST. I hope so.

  20. Dagmapiano says:

To air is to be human, hoho

  21. Kaled Ali says:

Have had iOS 5 since last week. :P

  23. joe scro says:

Having issues with iTunes 10.5 and syncing and/or backing up my iPhone 4. The processes are extremely slw at first, then come to a stop. After an hour of "backing up", the bar has filled very little (almost NOTHING), and I've had to stop the process many times. Along with not being able to create a backup, the phone depicted in iTunes is either a 4S or running iOS 5, neither of which I have. I hope these issues get resolved quickly. Anyone else having sync/back up problems?
