Single Spotify account breached in bizarre compromise, iOS user data reportedly safe

Spotify today announced that their serves has suffered breach, providing somebody somewhere unauthorized access to their systems and "internal company data". But in a strange twist, Spotify's internal investigation into the matter turned up evidence of only one user's data having been accessed, and that data did not include anything you might consider sensitive (e.g. password or payment information). While the breach has prompted Spotify to advise Android users to update their app, they aren't recommending any action for iOS or Windows Phone users.

Reeder for iOS gets background refresh and interface tweaks

Popular news-reading client Reeder 2 got a healthy update for iPhone and iPad today. The most notable addition is background refresh, so the latest stories will always be there waiting for you without having to pull them in once the app launches. Reeder will also kick into gear when external apps refer to an RSS feed, which is a nice touch for those that are regularly adding new sites to their collection. A smattering of other tweaks are also in Reeder 2.2, like a loading progress indicator for the in-app browser. disabling favicons from showing on the subscriptions list, and a few navigational improvements.

Carcassonne offers up new expansion pack - The Phantom

Carcassonne, a port of the popular German boardgame, has had a few additions to it since its initial release and it's time now for yet another expansion. This time around fans of the game have the ability, through in an in-app purchase to download 'The Phantom'.

It's a new game piece that is ghostly-transparent and can be played in addition to a regular one during a players turn. Aside from letting you place it in addition to another piece, the Phantom works exactly like a normal follower but it's both a good thing to have and possibly a bad thing to have, depending on how you play the piece.

Google releases VirusTotal Uploader for OS X to help keep your Mac secure

Google has released VirusTotal Uploader for OS X, an app that will let you upload suspicious apps and files to VirusTotal so they can be scanned by the service to identify malware. VirusTotal, purchased by Google in September 2012, has produced apps for Windows and Android, but this is the first VirusTotal product to be released on an Apple platform.

WhatsApp servers are down — it's not just you!

WhatsApp, the incredibly popular instant messaging service recently purchased by Facebook for almost $20 bilion, is offline at the moment. So, yeah, it's not just you. It's the WhatsApp servers. There's no word yet on how long the outage will last, so let us know in the comments whether it's working for you yet, and if not, when it starts working again!

Apple no longer allowing app downloads or updates following refund requests

If you've ever bought an app through the App Store and, for whatever reason, decided you needed to request a refund from Apple, then kept on using it and even updated it, bad news for you — it looks like Apple has begun blocking that practice. If you legitimately had an issue and didn't want the app, you won't be affected. If you were taking advantage, those days are done.

Tapbots rolling out critical update for Tweetbot

If you're a user of the fabulous Tapbots Twitter app Tweetbot, you'll want to listen up. A critical update to the app is now filtering through the iTunes App Store and arriving on iOS devices.

It's critical due to the fact that if you don't update, any versions of Tweetbot prior to 2.8.8 or 3.2.2 will stop working and you may need to log into your account again.
