How to give Siri a sex change in iOS 7

How to give Siri a sex change in iOS 7

With iOS 7, Siri gets improvements. It's no longer beta, and it adds new functionality thanks to deals with new partner services. The interface has changed, and for the first time, you can select the gender of Siri's voice. Here's how.

Siri's voice changes from country to country, but up to now, if you live in the United States or Canada, Siri has had only a female voice. Now you can make Siri sound male, or vice versa:

  1. Tap Settings
  2. Scroll down to the General setting. Tap it.
  3. Tap Siri on the next screen.
  4. A list of options will appear - you can turn Siri on or off completely, and select the language that Siri will understand. Other options enable Siri to provide you with voice feedback, help you identify yourself, and determine what you need to do to activate Siri.
  5. The second option down is Voice Gender. Tapping it pulls up the option of Male or Female. Set Siri's voice to whichever gender you'd like.
  6. Press the Home button to exit out of Settings.

This option isn't available in all countries, but it's there for Americans and Canadians.

Have you swapped Siri's gender? Or are you sticking with the tried and true voice you're used to? Or do you not have a gender option for your localized version of Siri? I want to hear from you, so please sound off in the comments.

For UK users...
First set your language to English- American (not UK)
Then go to Siri settings and Gender option will be displayed.
Works for me in Siri but not in Maps (voice directions) or in Speak command within SMS.

I'm from New Zealand, so we get to use the English Australian, (female only) as our language. One thing Apple might not realise is how annoying an Aussie accent can be to a Kiwi, and to me, the nasal sydneysider inside my phone is the worst one (Melbournians sound more like Aucklanders, but Apple has chosen classic Sydneysider). I like the UK accents, but English UK only gets Male. 8( WTF Apple, this is still annoying compared to the range of voices you get in OS X. PLEASE open this up to third party speech providers!
I want a PA, not a butler.

I was able to do it once, but I decided I wanted to put it back the way it was and the voice gender option no longer is available! WTF? Did something happen with the IOS 7.02 upgrade?
