iOS 5 beta, iTunes 10.5 beta are live (ish)

As promised during the WWDC 2011 Keynote today, Apple has posted betas of iOS 5, iTunes 10.5 (required to install iOS 5), the iOS 5 SDK, Xcode 4.2, and Apple TV OS.

Developer.apple.com is getting slammed, of course, so whether you can get in or not is a different story, but once in it's all there for your developer testing pleasure.

If you grab it, let us know how it works for you

dloveprod says:

Finally got in to purchase waiting for confirmation email, I hope it comes tonight.

TokenWasp says:

No iTunes 10.3 (or 10.5) available for 64-bit Windows.

Joel says:

Music and video are now separate like an iPod Touch?! Why did they do that?

Joel says:

this is on a iPhone 4

Michael says:

Is iTunes 10.5 beta available for 32 bit versions of Windows so the iOS beta can be installed using Windows?

Michael says:

Thanks. One last question: I don't own a credit card which seems to be required to register as developer and get access to beta versions.
My girlfried however owns a credit card - can I use her Apple ID to create a developer account and still use the beta on my iPhone with my Apple ID?

Chris says:

Yes, you can add 100 apple uid's to your developer account.

jimmybowser says:

I am a registered developer, but I don't see iOS5 when I log into my account at developer.apple.com. I only see stuff for 4.3. Please help!

Michael says:

From what I can see you need to click on "Beta versions" which then requires to purchase an account for 99$

jason says:

I also have the same issue i signed up to be a developer have paid and received my confirmation email but it is only allowing me for sdk 4.3? I also do not see the beta versions you are talking about. Any help would be very appreciated.

Cody says:

You must first activate your paid iOS developer account before you can access the beta versions. After purchasing, you will receive an activation email containing a code that you will use to activate your account for iOS development. After you do that, the betas will work.

Wes says:

Okay, here's a question. I have two phones and 3 ipod touch's on my account. If i download the iOS5 beta how many phones can I use it on? Ive been wanting to make an app or two for my job and this is just the incentive i need.

Cody says:

There is a maximum of 100 devices that can be registered under your account.

Anon says:

What is the ipsw size for the iPhone 4 firmware? Is it bigger? Over 1GB?

rbiro says:

Did I miss a slide proclaiming the unification of the Verizon and GSM iOS branches? Shouldn't that have merited a slide.

Alan says:

Installed, and its running pretty well :D Loving these new features! How can i mail accross the screen shots i have taken to TiPb?
@Anon file size is 730MB.

Danyel says:

Any issue with iOS 5 ??
Anyone know if Skype work ?

jasonact says:

Wait, what? Apple TV? Since that isn't a device accessible to developers, Apple hasn't released a beta version of the new OS for Apple TV. In fact, they usually just spring the new version of the OS when they get it ready, and not a moment sooner. What's the deal?

Joe says:

How long did confirmation take for ya'll today?

dloveprod says:

Just got mine a few minutes ago.

Scatabrain says:

Running on VZW IOS 5 beta! Awesome. I was NOT able to restore my backup. I was mentally prepared for the before I decided. :) All is good.
Cheers!

Scatabrain says:

Correction! After rebooting phone restored profile despite error before reboot. Warning - seems to have trouble installing some apps. Was also mentally prepared for that. (I do most things in my iPad).

Justin says:

I have downloaded the iOS5 and iTunes 10.5 but it is having me update my iPhone 4 to 4.3.3… How do I have it do the iOS5 update instead of just the 4.3.3?
Thanks

Justin says:

I have updated to 4.3.3 and it is still not recognizing in itunes that ive downloaded ios 5. please help. What is the next step?

Ryan Eliot says:

I updated my Verizon iPhone to iOS 5, everything on the phone works fine, except the phone! My phone number is being identified as 00000003656 and it won't let me make a call.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Is this an xcode issue? I did not do any provisioning with xcode. For whatever reason, my iOS 5 Verizon iPhone won't register with Verizon...please help!

I cant find it!!!!
please help!
Yes, Im a developer...
Thanks!

Steven Alexander says:

So you guys paid $90.00 to get it today? That's loyalty...I guess :-/

hoosieriphone says:

So it costs $99....wow. I will have to wait until fall. Can't afford it. I am very jealous. Have fun with it.

sau124 says:

You don't have to pay. Just find a developer and he will add you.

Joel Howard says:

Is there any way of knowing what apps you have that will not work with iOS 5 yet?

preferredgeoff says:

You have to accept the new agreement before you can access beta 5, on Mac hold down option and select the right ipsw, not sure how to pick what os to install on windows it's either ctrl or shift I think. Sad part is nobody to try out imessage with.

Steven Alexander says:

I'll have it in a few. I found a beta developer who's selling. Yay!

preferredgeoff says:

Now I need lion and icloud beta and i would be happier, beta dev's shouldnt be selling and if you dont know the person and you do it and they don't provision your device your screwed. Thats a little risky,

preferredgeoff says:

SO i figured out netflix doesn't work on ios5 and maps crashes alot, other then that seems ok,

swsmpbaby985 says:

Question....if I purchase this beta and install it on my main iPhone, would they be a bad idea? I've seen some comments on the web saying you should avoid using the beta on your main iPhone...anime care to clarify that for me before I go through with the purchase?

Darrius says:

I have a developer account if anyone wants there iPhone activated for $10 to get the 5.0 beta email me at irepairstore@gmail.com.

alvin cox says:

i emailed you about the beta software. plz respond to alvingogocox@gmail.com

swsmpbaby985 says:

Once installing the beta, and if for whatever reason you need to restore the device....is it possible? Or is the iDevice basically bricked to iOS 5 at that point?

Cody says:

There are still ways to downgrade back to iOS 4 versions (current). Just check iClarified.com they have tutorials on how to do it. You must enter your phone into DFU mode before anything. Check here http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034 and see if that helps.

Cdoyle says:

So i have noticed that my banking app does not work with IOS5, also noticed that the phone has some
trouble installing apps, but really you just need to double click on the install. It can be a little bit slow at times, and it froze occasionally; causing me to restart. However i love the notifications!

aaron says:

im going to sign up a dev account if you want me to add your phone on it for $10 email me vuman23@gmail.com

Earl says:

I only see stuff for 4.3. What do I need to do?

Cody says:

Are you signed up for the iOS developer program? It costs $99. If so, you need to activate it as well. You will get the activation email up to 24 hours after your purchase.

Mike says:

I have a Verizon iPhone running iOS 5 everything works but Netflix and my all my contacts were going after the restore. If you get error 3002 you need to click with the option key down on restore not update. Anyone else lose their contacts?

Justin says:

I lost all contacts in the "On My iPhone" directory. Trying to get them back but having no luck.

Justin says:

Just fixed it! Restore again from the most recent backup before you updated. This time, when it walks you through the setup on the phone itself, turn iCloud OFF. When the restore in finished, go to your contacts, and you'll notice the "All on My iPhone" contacts are back. Now go into Settings, then iCloud, and turn on Contacts. All contacts on the iPhone will merge with iCloud, and you're all set!

Hank says:

Here is a step-by-step guide to installing iOS 5 beta on any of iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.http://www.thinkingcap.com.au/news/guide-installing-ios-5-beta

Mike says:

Great job Justin, I will try to get my contacts back that way.

PureInstinct says:

For Verizon iPhone folks, do the following work?:
Phone app - can you successfully make calls?
Wi-Fi data
3G data
Mobile Hotspot
Skype
Has anyone tried to sync Reminders with Outlook? No, Outlook is not the greatest, but I have to use it for work. Thanks!

Ryan Eliot says:

PureInstinct says:

@Ryan Eliot, have you tried to re-register the phone on the Verizon network by dialing *228 and then press 1?

PureInstinct says:

Can the iOS 5 update be performed using a Windows 7 computer or is an OS X Mac required? I'm talking about if you do it through the developer program.

Mike says:

IOS 5 Verizon phone: how to get your contacts back: do a iTunes restore of iOS 5 again and this time do not turn on I loud until u check and see your old contacts are back. Then turn on icloud. Worked great!

Ze Mota says:

After a couple of days with ios5 beta on i4 looks like battery is consumed faster

Evan Newlin says:

So i read somewhere else that there will be something called iTunes match in the iCloud. its $24.99 a year. will i stil be able to use my itunes on my computer? i don't have $25 to pay each year. thats ridiculous.

Cjloosejr says:

its just if you want itunes match not for itunes

Chris says:

I second the battery comment. I have been running iOS 5 for two days now and love the new additions, but when i start my day with 100% battery and am down to 69% by 11:30am... There is something wrong..

J Tobin says:

Try iOS 5 by going to www.applegirlfriend.com and we will activate your UDID for you.

J Tobin says:

You can also try www.activationsudid.com and we can activate your UDID for you.

Nbloom94 says:

I downloaded beta 2 and my service is working perfectly and all my apps are fine and my music is good the only problem is my contacts arent showing up with their names.. just the number and when i try to use the verizon contact restore app it says i have low connection...

Micky says:

Did you have to register your UDID? Also did you update your iPhone for ATT or Verizon?

swagpanther says:

if i become a developer, and upgrade my iphone 4 to ios 5, will is still be able to use the apps and make calls, and send txts? or does it take away your network connection?

fhsjaagshs says:

Install, attempt login, quit app, reboot. Worked for me.

Haley_nicole2012 says:

If I accidentally clicked to make it a new phone is there any way to get my contacts back?

Norman says:

How long does it take to download iCloud to a iPad 2?

free stuff without surveys says:
