PwnageTool 4.2 released, untethered, fixes iBooks

The Phone Dev Team's PwnageTool, which allows for the Jailbreak of iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and Apple TV, has been updated to version 4.2 and now is untethered and fixes issues with iBooks.

With [Chronic Dev Team's] permission, we’ve incorporated their 4.2.1 “feedface” untether into today’s PwnageTool 4.2. This means iPhone unlockers can safely restore to a custom 4.2.1 pre-jailbroken IPSW and retain their current baseband and unlock.

PwnageTool also includes two very recent improvements to the 4.2.1 JB: iBooks was just fixed by @comex and @pushfix last night so that it works as intended on DRMed books, and the wifi problem on AppleTV 2G was fixed by @nitotv, @DHowett, and @saurik. Both of these fixes will also be available in upcoming Cydia package updates, so if you’re already jailbroken you can wait for those updates rather than restore and jailbreak again.

If PwnageTool is your preferred Jailbreak, go get it via the link below (they have mirrors posted as well) and tell us how it works for you!

I read on their website the iBooks fix might be released as a Cydia update as to not make people rejailbreak. So hopefully that comes out soon just for spite haha.

Brian Tufo says:

Haha maybe if I read closer I would of seen this is in the article above. Dang my attention span!

devonair says:

Potentially n00b-sounding question: is there any significant advantage to using this over greenpoison? Is one easier than the other? ...and is there any timetable to a carrier unlock?

dmackdaddy says:

So does this mean I can UNLOCK my 4.2.1 with 3.10.01 Modem FW?

sfwrtr says:

Cat and mouse, cat and mouse. Yeah mouse!

swooshme says:

No you can't unlock 3.10.01 yet. It's for people who haven't updated from 4.0.x yet. Or managed to preserve baseband by using tiny umbrella when updating the iPhone 4.

Siro says:

Good news, will wait for the respective Cydia packages and fix the iBooks problem.

I keep forgetting how to restore from the custom IPSW. Can't ever ever remember the key combo to press to select it.

Apples starting to mess with ipod app now too. When i opened the app on my jailbroken ipad everything just poof, dissapeared. When i try to add songs or podcasts they don't appear. If jailbreaking isn't illegal how can they be deleting legitly bought music and books from my device?

ronmcse says:

Where will the iBooks package be located in Cydia?

james00 says:

Does this mean Redsn0w 4.2 untethered isn't far behind for windows??

TulioAdriano says:

Just did it, very smooth, Baseband 1.59.00 still there! All went fine!

Kevin says:

I did the following fix (did nit need to re-jailbreak), and it worked fine:
