Quick App Updates: Jaadu, AutoStitch, PCalc, QuickOffice, Fring
Tapped open App Store and what did I see? Five fresh new iPhone 3.0 feature packed app updates just waiting for me! (Okay, four, I already updated Fring...)
Jaadu VNC [$24.99 - iTunes link] adds support for cut, copy, and paste, remote copy support, and full screen view.
AutoStitch [$1.99 - iTunes link] includes cropping and support for higher resolution out for iPhone 3GS
PCalc [$9.99 - iTunes link] highlights include 3 and 4 line display modes, more memories, option to prevent rotation (Apple needs to add this system wide!), HP48-like mode, copy tape to clipboard, "easier to read" now even easier. to. read. and button easier to press.
QuickOffice [$12.99 on sale - iTunes link] now supports iPhone 3.0 cut, copy, and paste and shake to undo/redo, access email attachments, text wrapping, aligned overflow, and user-friendly indent and align control for docs.
Fring [Free - iTunes link] now offers Push Notification.

Another great mblioe option for publishers of magazines with a lot of content is to offer audio (text to speech) versions of the articles. Newspapers already provide this, so hopefully magazines will, too.
QuickOffice is an interesting case.
They had copy/paste before, but only within QO. It worked exactly the same way that the iPhone copy paste worked. It even looked the same. I think apple stole it from these guys.
So QO really just stripped out their copy paste, and went with Apple's version.
Now the Access to Email attachments is kind of funky. You can't send email attachments directly to your own account and access them.
What you do is send an email from within your QO application with a list of email addresses from which you will accept Attachments. Could be your own email, your work mates, secretary, boss, etc.
Then these email addresses will get an email telling them they can send mail to files@quickofficeconnect.com and you will be able to receive within QuickOffice by going to a directory called Attachments.
This is pretty cool. Documents sent there show up quickly and I can download them quickly.

I register my boss's email address as being able to send me documents. So does Fred in a different division.
My boss sends Fred his yearly evaluation document.
Who gets that? Everybody who put my boss in as a eligible sender? Do we all sit around snorting and chuckling at Fred's annual evaluation?
I only have one copy of QuickOffice so I can't test this. But when you send an attachment there is nothing to distinguish who gets it. That is all done server side by matching Addresses. Unless they forbid two people from making the same email address eligible to send I see this as a potential security hole.
I posted in the forum about Fring, but I put it in the wrong place, attaching it to Llofte's review of IM+, thinking that providing some points of comparison would be welcome. Touchyphone set me straight abut that.

The process and program work great. Docs to Go may never catch up.

fring is a nice alternative to the pay push im apps, they keep you logged in for hours
ways the purpose of Jaadu [yes I did check out the iTunes Link]. Do you have to have a wi-fi connection to use it?!
^ No, you can use it via 3g too.
you have to do the manual setup in jaadu if you don't have a wireless router, though. You have to forward ports, set up static ip addresses, etc.

I just got confirmation from because direct sending from QuickOffice Customer Support that attachments go to who ever got your Boss to confirm LAST. That person gets all the attachments. Nobody else gets any.
This still seems like a major security risk to me, and ripe for abuse. If I submit Rene Richie's email address, knowing he is so busy he will just click OK, then all his documents are belong to me.

what I was told, he's using a singal jam device. Every time he takes the picture away, he uses the jammer and for every time he uses the picture, he stops. So the answer is yes and no. It's just based on him doing it, that's why the singal jumps up so fast when the picture is put in the table.
