The Trouble with iTunes on the Mac and Windows

For a company that prides itself on providing a top-notch user experience, Apple ought to hang its head in shame for the disaster that iTunes has turned into. It's a bloated, piggish, unreliable mess. It's the application we love to hate. It's the application that some of us just hate. But we put up with it. Because we have no choice.

iTunes want: Send apps from the desktop store straight to a specific iOS device

There's a feature I would love to have from iTunes over and above everything else: the ability to send apps I buy on the desktop straight to a specific iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. What iTunes offers right now, automatic all-or-nothing downloads controlled on the device and not selectable via the desktop, doesn't suit me very well. Here's the difference:

Sharknado might be sucktastic, but here are some great iTunes shark movies to chomp on!

So, apparently something called Sharknado happened last night on SyFy and it has the Internets ablaze. It's a straight-to-TV shark flick starring Ian Ziering and Tara Reid – needing the work, possibly? – that sees a massive tornado that hits Los Angeles throwing a ton of huge, vicious sharks in to the city streets. I know, right? Truth is, it's pretty sucktastic; so bad it's actually pretty awesome.

After all that, you're probably hungry for some more shark filled action, and the good news is iTunes has you covered! So, here's a selection of the great – and the not so great – shark movies you can rent or buy from the iTunes store this weekend. We accept no responsibility for the quality of some of these movies, but hey, they're still pretty fun, and some even have girls in bikinis! You have been warned!

iTunes Store currently down for 20% of users, are you one of them?

Should Apple bring iTunes to Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone? [Poll]

Should Apple bring iTunes to Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone?

Yesterday on Talk Mobile we talked all about cross-platform apps and while almost everyone from Google to Microsoft -- and soon, BlackBerry -- makes apps for iOS, Apple doesn't make anything for Android, BlackBerry, or Windows Phone. Steve Jobs once famously said iTunes was a glass of water for Windows users stuck in hell, so what about a few shots of H2O for those languishing in the mobile versions?

In the age of iCloud, does Apple need to maintain a monstrous iTunes?

Breaking up iTunes is Peter Cohen's number one want for OS X 10.9. He's probably not alone on that front, I myself went as far as saying I'd love to see the Podcasts app broken away from iTunes and released as a stand alone as on iOS. On their iOS devices, Apple has made the iTunes experience so much better than on the desktop, and it's been this way for a long time. And, with iCloud at their disposal, Apple could easily strip apart the "bloated, unwieldy mess" that is the current iTunes desktop experience.
