Tim Cook breaks down App Store by the numbers

Tim Cook kicked off WWDC by breaking down App Store by the numbers: 400 million customers across 120 countries (with another 32 on the way) have downloaded 30 billion apps, dished out $5 billion to developers, and is currently hosting 650,000 apps (225,000 for the iPad).

Apple Store goes offline, get ready to start pounding "refresh"

Apple's online store has been taken offline for "maintenance", which is better known as "putting up some super-sweet new products that are announced at WWDC". iOS 6 is pretty much a given, but it's probably too optimistic to expect an iPhone 5 being put on presale.

What will Apple release at WWDC 2012? [Poll]

The banners are already up for iOS 6, but will we get a first beta on keynote day, or will Apple make us wait a while? What about OS X Mountain Lion, will it go Gold Master? We've heard about new iCloud features, will it be just a few little additions or a full 2.0 update? The Apple TV runs iOS, but is it ready to get an App Store all its own? And are new Macs, maybe with iOS-style Retina displays going to be the one more thing?

Not nuking the future

Apple doesn't nuke the future. They don't announce so many new products and services it scorches the market and blots out the shelves. They don't copy and create so many new features and SKUs each year that no one can keep up, and many are left unadopted or simply abandoned.

They have confidence enough to focus, to place a very small amount of huge bets on consumer demand. Rather than dropping every atom and bit imaginable, they carefully line up single shots.
