Lara Croft GO will combine tomb raiding with puzzles for mobile gamers

Lara Croft, the adventurer at the center of the Tomb Raider game franchise, is no stranger to mobile devices. Today, publisher Square Enix announced plans to release Lara Croft GO, and by the looks of the game's trailer, this will be a very different experience compared to past games in the series.

Here's the official description:

Building on the success of the award-winning and critically acclaimed Hitman GO, Square Enix Montreal unveils an all-new, ground-breaking mobile experience: Lara Croft GO. It's Lara Croft as you've never seen her before: a turn-based puzzle experience set in a long-forgotten world, delivering gorgeous visuals, a mesmerizing soundtrack and challenging gameplay, all at your fingertips.

The game is due out sometime later this year.

  • Looks like a cross between Tomb Raider and Monument Valley. Fine. I'm certain it will be better than Relic Run, which also features the Lara Croft character. Relic Run feels more like Lara Croft meets Sonic the Hedgehog. She runs and picks up coins, but you use up far too many coins to re-spawn her when she falls or runs into a wall. And when you burn through your daily allotment of free coins, guess what? You need to buy more. End result: Relic Run is just another frustrating in-app money pit of a game. I'm hoping Lara Croft GO will be much better than that.
