Sit on the Iron Throne in Reigns: Game of Thrones for iOS

Two years ago, a studio named Nerial made a strategy game called Reigns, published by Devolver Digital and released on iOS, Android, macOS, Linux, and Windows.

In Reigns, players took on the role of a monarchial king, who must accept or reject suggestions from both his advisors and the people he ruled over. The interface is very Tinder-like, where players swipe left or right to make their choices, and the decisions affect the king's hold over the Church, People, Military, and Wealth. Once the old king dies, a new one takes his place and the cycle continues.

In 2017, a follow-up to Reigns came out, appropriately tilted Reigns: Her Majesty. It followed pretty much the same formula as the original, except with a Queen instead of a King.

Now we have Reigns: Game of Thrones, where players take on the roles of major ruling characters from the book and television series. This includes: Cersei Lannister, Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, and Sansa Stark.

You'll find other familiar characters who act as advisors to your ruler, or who just have problems they want you to solve. You'll make a choice by swiping the card left or right, but you can peek at the answers by doing a slow swipe while holding down on the screen.

Like the other two games, every decision you make counts. It affects your Military Strength, Religious Favor, Domestic Popularity, and State Wealth. Once one factor reaches the bottom, or you end up making a poor major decision, then that ruler's reign has ended.

The thing that sets Reigns: Game of Thrones apart from the other games is the fact that each ruler's reign is actually just a vision of the Red Priestess, Melisandre. She's basically just seeing into the future, what would happen if these characters ruled over Westoros. Because if you know anything about Game of Thrones, nothing that happens in this game is considered canonical.

Reigns: Game of Thrones also always starts off with Daenerys, and progressively unlock other major characters by playing through her reign. Every character has unique challenges based on their own stories and backgrounds. There are also mini-games, such as jousting and tavern brawling.

If you enjoyed the other Reigns games, but need more Game of Thrones in your life, then this is one you don't want to miss out on.
