AirPlay direct rumored to be coming to iOS 6, iPhone 5

AirPlay currently requires an existing Wi-Fi network in order to stream media or mirror content from an iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, or Mac to an Apple TV or speaker system. This makes it more cumbersome for non-technical users, and less convenient for temporary situations like guests or traveling. Something like Wi-Fi direct, which would allow device-to-device connections would be a simpler solution.

WWDC 2012 and iOS 6: What we didn't get

Expectations were high for the iOS 6 announcement at WWDC today, and most of them were met, but there is a lot of stuff that we're still waiting on. Rene has blown through a ton of features on competing smartphone platforms that could find a home on iOS. Apple clamping down on AirPlay receiver apps, including Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil

Apple has recently removed Airfoil Speakers Touch by Rogue Amoeba and AirFloat by The Famous Software Company from the iTunes App Store for using AirPlay APIs that Apple has deemed non-public.

How to send video, games, FaceTime and more from your new iPad to your TV with AirPlay

Back when iOS 4.2 was released, Apple introduced a new feature called AirPlay. Although limited at the time, AirPlay allowed any video using Apple’s standard media control to beam image and sound over a local Wi-Fi network to an Apple TV for viewing on the big screen.

Later on, iOS 4.3 brought more functionality to the service by adding support for Apple’s Photo app and various other 3rd party apps. Now with iOS 5, AirPlay mirroring lets any screen of any app to be displayed on an Apple TV over Wi-Fi including games and yes, even FaceTime.

iHome working on three new iPhone docks, set to show them off at CES 2012

iHome is working on bringing three new iPhone docks to its already large portfolio of accessories. The new docks are set to be revealed at CES 2012 which starts next week. Three models will be introduced in total; one will even include AirPlay.
