Apple has just released software update 4.4.3 for the Apple TV 2. The update carries a new build number (9A4051) following the last update that hit in October.

Details of the update include added support for Netflix in Mexico as well as addressing an audio problem when playing sound through the optical port when your television set is turned off. The Apple TV Software Update 4.4.3 is available now through the 'Update Software' option under General Settings.

(And yes, they're still confusingly referring to iOS Software 5.x as Apple TV version 4.x -- can we stop that please?)

There is a interesting bug in iPhone 4 photos where a blue tint shows up in the middle of the image. This bug has been widely noted and appears to effect only the back, 5mp camera and not the forward facing VGA camera. It also seems to still be a problem under iOS 4.2.1. Some have stated that this may because of the lighting conditions, while others have noted this effect under many different types of light. <del datetime="2010-12-29T23:27:08+00:00"> I have not had this issue myself with my iPhone 4 or heard of any of my friends having it either</del>. I wrote too soon! I tried taking a picture of a white blanket with my iPhone 4 for the post... and here is what happened..

After the shock lifted, I realized that at close range, I too have a blue tinge on my photos.

This is quite an annoying issue and I have been told of many people exchanging their iPhone 4's only to get another phone and have the same problem. This seems to be an issue which effects most if not all iPhone 4's. This issue also occurs with video.

Possible causes

fluorescent lighting

iPhone 4 defect

Potential fixes

use incandescent lighting

install Camera Spot Fix app

exchange iPhone 4

live with it

Want to know if this happens on your iPhone 4? Take a picture of something white like a piece of paper from close range (2 to 3 feet) and let me know what you see. You may be as shocked as I am.

Let me know if you have this problem and if any fixes have worked for you. Also, does it affect your day to day use?

[Thank you Peter for emailing in this bug!]

Disappearing Folders have been tormenting iPhone and iPod touch users since iOS 4 came out in June but now that iOs 4.2.1 is out for iPad, the disappearing Folder bug

Disappearing Folders have been tormenting iPhone and iPod touch users since iOS 4 came out in June but now that iOs 4.2.1 is out for iPad, the disappearing Folder bug is out with it. Here's the gist -- you have spent minutes if not hours organizing your countless applications into Folders only to come back at some time in the future to see one or more folders gone and your apps exploded back across your Home Screen.

We'll go over the details and offer some potential fixes after the break!

First let me just point out that it's more than losing your Folders that makes this bug so insufferable -- it's losing the time it took to make those Folders and the time it takes to search out the apps that were in them (if you had more than would fit on the 11 Home Screen pages without Folders, some might even have been bumped into invisible space and be a nightmare to find) and make the Folder again. Yes, re-Foldering is infuriating.

Since it's been around for several months and is is still around after iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2 it's hard to know the cause. Some have experienced it after updating to a new version of iTunes, others after updating their applications on-device or doing hard resets. I have had this happen to me without updating iTunes or my apps, so who knows? (Maybe Apple should add a "Folders, re-Assemble!" button in the next update?)

Painthead from Apple Discussions posted a possible fix.

Update all your applications, move them into folders and then sync your iPhone/iPad.

If you've had this bug happen to you let us know in comments, and if that fix, or any other fix you've tried, has solved the problem for you let us know that as well.

So it's been a day since 2.0.1 was made available and we at TiPb would like to know how it's been running on your iPhone. Did this bug-fixer of an update actually fix any bugs? Or are we all getting suckered into believing that the update has made things snappier? Pains in the update process? Backups faster? Apps Crashing? Or are things just less sucky? Maybe you completely avoided the update..anything and everything, we want to know!

Personally, things have "felt" a little bit smoother. Contacts load noticeably quicker but my SMS is still a good couple of seconds too long. No crashes to report yet but I did have one ginormously big hiccup after updating: the mail app crashed on launch. I had to completely restore and set up my iPhone as a new iPhone which was more than mildly annoying, to put it lightly. So other than that, YAY 2.0.1. Woot.

So TiPb faithful, how is 2.0.1 treating you?
