Sony has hired Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak to advise on its upcoming film based on the book  Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacsson. Woz will be there to consult on Jobs and on technical aspects of computers. Sony has already hired Aaron Sorkin to write the film and he was also responsible for the recent film based on Facebook, The Social Network as well as television's The West Wing. Unfortunately this project does not seem that straight forward for Sorkin.

"I know so little about what I am going to write. I know what I am not going to write. It can't be a straight ahead biography because it's very difficult to shake the cradle-to-grave structure of a biography, " Sorkin told reporters at a news conference for his upcoming  HBO drama "The Newsroom." Sorkin noted that "The Social Network" saw the Facebook story through the lens of an acrimonious lawsuit that pitted CEO Mark Zuckerberg against his Harvard friends over the creation of the social media network. "Drama is tension versus obstacle. Someone wants something, something is standing in their way of getting it. They want the money, they want the girl, they want to get to Philadelphia - doesn't matter ... And I need to find that event and I will. I just don't know what it is," Sorkin said.

Mark Hulme, the producer of the upcoming Steve Jobs movie starring Ashton Kutcher, recently sat down to an interview detailing thoughts and plans about the high-profile flick. The biggest question for me is how a small, independent, new filmmaker managed to wrangle such a good match for a young Steve Jobs as Kutcher. Hulme replied:

When Ashton read the script he was immediately attracted to the project. He is a Steve Jobs and Apple fan, and is technologically savvy, as well, so he recognized the historical importance of Steve Jobs and the potential of the project. He is very excited to have the role.

Filming starts next month, and there are still many key roles that have yet to be filled, but Hulme promises that the movie will be "an accurate and inspirational portrayal of [Jobs'] fascinating life and the huge impact he had on the world". Jobs: Get Inspired (the movie's working title) won't be without competition. Besides there already being an early-days biopic about Steve Jobs called Pirates of Silicon Valley released in 1999, Sony intends to turn the official biography by Walter Isaacson into a movie too. Unfortunately for Sony, their version will be coming out after Get Inspired, which should be available before the end of the year.

Ashton Kutcher looks set to play the role of Apple's co-founder, the late Steve Jobs in an indie film which will be called simply “Jobs”. Kutcher who currently stars in "Two and a Half Men" is believed to have been cast in the main role according to a report by Variety.

The film will chronicle Steve Jobs from wayward hippie to co-founder of Apple, where he became one of the most revered creative entrepreneurs of our time.

This film is not to be confused with the Sony film which is based on the recent best-selling book Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson; this is an entirely independent venture.

Rooster Teeth Productions has put together a short tongue-in-cheek video trailer based upon the theory that Siri has become self aware and decides it no longer wants to be your personal assistant. Instead it turns against the human race and decides to go on a killing spree avenging all those lame things you asked it to do in the past.

The video is called Siri: The Holiday Horror Movie and is based on a group of friends who all receive an iPhone 4S for Christmas. The joy is short lived as one by one Siri oversees their timely demise. It is a very well put together trailer; but beware it does include a little blood!

Seamus McGarvey, cinematographer of the upcoming Joss Whedon-helmed, Marvel Comics hero-filled Avengers movie, revealed in an interview with IFTN that some of the shots in the film were taken with an iPhone.

The beauty of photography or cinema is that you make every choice based on the content at hand. On The Avengers, I did a couple of shots on the iPhone and they are in the movie. In fact, they are in the trailer! I understand that sometimes there is no choice and you have to go for the cheapest option, but if you are limited for choice, you can still make poignant decisions that will effect the look of the film

UPDATE: McGarvey has issues a clarification to Hollywood Reporter saying iPhones were used on-set -- as phones and mobile devices -- but not used for filming.

How would you fancy viewing 3D content on your iPhone without the need for any nerdy glasses or a hardware upgrade? Well, Media artist Jitsuro Mase has invented an add on for iOS devices, which he is calling i3DG.

i3DG is a playful analog extension to an iPhone or an iPodTouch, converting its 2D display into a layered 3D view. Using the old technique of placing a half-silvered mirror at a 45-degree angle in front of an image, in a new context, the project extends upon 3D displays and iPhones. As a peripheral gadget, i3DG can support a wide range of different applications, from 3D videos and animations to accelerometer-based games.

The system used is known as the Pepper Ghost technique, more information can be found at the Pepper Ghost wiki page, it is all a bit of smoke and mirrors, well without the smoke anyway.

All that is needed to watch 3D content on an iOS device is the i3DG which is a small slip on box that contains the mirrors and of course media created in the correct format; which apparently is extremely easy to create.

The device has already won a honorary mention at Ars Electronica Festival 2010, it will be shown off again at The International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2011.

The HD video featuring the Ducati Multistrada 1200 motorcycle was shot solely with a iPhone 4. The only trick that was used in post production was stabilization to give the appearance of using a professional camera. All of the very impressive footage was captured this past Sunday in the Pike's Peak International Hill Climb. If you are not familiar with any Pike's Peak events, they are simply races to the top of the mountain via some treacherous dirt road terrain.

We are very aware that this application may not be for all of our readers, but for those of you who are horror movie fanatics, N.O.T.L.D. [$0.99 - iTunes Link] is an app for you. Never again will you have to leave your home without your very own copy of George Romero's 1968 'zombie' classic, Night of the Living Dead.

This app includes the original and alternate movie posters, a streaming version of the movie which is broken down in chapters (streams perfectly fine on AT&T's 3G data network), and an wiki page detailing anything you'd like to know about this classic films history.

If you have never watched a horror classic such as this and you enjoy good horror flicks, I highly recommend checking this film out and why not view it directly on your iPhone?!

Unsubstantiated rumor? Check. First time source? Check. Friend who wants to remain nameless? Check. That's it then it's crazy iPhone screenshot time!

The above come from Kwame Jones via Ars Technica and while I'm perfectly willing to believe Apple would extend their on-device music and podcast (including video podcast) download service to include movies and TV shows, and that we'd get early warning by way of leaked screenshots, I just can't bring myself to believe this part of the story:

This revelation, (again at least to me) comes by way of an advertisement in the new ad supported version of the app Twitterfon released on 5/15/09. Three ads, stumbled upon by a geeky friend of mine who wishes to remain anonymous for fear of the powerful arms of the Apple legal department, scrolling across the top of the app were for ‘iTunes Movies’, ‘iTunes TV’ and ‘iTunes Movie Rentals’.

Could Apple accidentally post content pre-official release? Sure, happens to everyone. But to advertise it through a network placement pre-release? Not since Steve Jobs walked the MobileMe hallways with a flamethrower, I'd wager.

If the service is for real, AT&T would no doubt impose the usual 10MB cap on 3G downloads, though Wi-Fi would work. 3G streaming, like with SlingPlayer Mobile, might just bring the network down like the towers of paper antenna it's thus far proven to be.

Ifs, ands, and buts, aside, would you want on-device downloads for your TV and movies?
