Nest thermostats can now talk to Philips Hue, third-party smart locks and more

After launching the Works with Nest initiative last year, Nest is announcing a slew of new partnerships that include Philips, LG, Insteon, Withings and more. The new integrations mean that your Nest thermostat will be able to communicate with a wider range of devices and services.

Here's a list of all the services that now work with your Nest thermostat:

  • August smart lock
  • Automatic driving assistant
  • Insteon
  • LG smart home appliances
  • Lutron
  • Ooma Telo
  • Philips Hue
  • Unikey
  • Kevo smart lock
  • Withings Aura

With Automatic's driving assistant, the thermostat can detect when you're nearby and automatically begin warming (or cooling) your house. If you've got a smart refrigerator from LG, you can set it to go into energy-saving mode as soon as you leave the house.

The new additions bolster the list of companies Nest already works with, which include the likes of Google, Logitech, Mercedes, Dropcam, IFTTT and others. There's even more in store for Nest owners, with Beep Dial, Big Ass Fans, Chargepoint EV charging stations, Whirlpool appliances and Zuli smart plug integration set to arrive later this year.

  • It finally seems like we are starting to see one or two standards, instead of many. I saw yesterday while buying lightbulbs that wink has teamed up with GE, and that Nest now also works with Wink. Finally starting to see one app instead of many. I think this is good news. One standard, makes a truly integrated smarthome finally become a feasible DIY or professional option.
  • Too pricey for a thermostat if you want too change the temp get your fat ass up off the couch and hit the button it's not brain surgery, more high tech stuff you don't need. Sent from the iMore App
  • Agree. If it wasn’t for the cost my scrawny ass would actually be a little fatter, (I welcome it too).
