Description: The mascot for Pokémon Gold and Pokémon HeartGold, Ho-Oh is a legendary Pokémon based off of the Phoenix. Ho-Oh is a gigantic bird with feathers in red, gold, and white, with a hint of green tipping its wing feathers and a green stripe around its neck. Its beak is yellow, and it has black talons and black circles around its eyes. Although its wings appear to be primarily red and its tail primarily gold, Ho-Oh's feathers are prismatic, causing it to trail an actual rainbow as it flies.
Like the Phoenix of Legends, Ho-Oh has the power to ressurect the dead, and even reincarnate the dead with new Legendary powers of their own. The most famous example of this power was when the Brass Tower in Ecruteak City burned down. Ho-Oh reincarnated three Pokémon who died in that fire as Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. Ho-Oh remains the master of this trio of Legendary Beasts, but also flies the world over in search of a Trainer with a pure heart. In the very first episode of the Pokémon series, Ash saw Ho-Oh just after his Pikachu was struck by lightning and saved Ash's life. Ho-Oh is also part of the Tower Duo, the polar opposite of Lugia, and called the Guardian of the Skies.
