iPad 2 LCD supplier identified, no AMOLED? [Rumor]

According to Digitimes, Apple's iPad will will be featuring an LCD display with BLUs (Back Light Units) from supplier Coretronic. That, of course, means once again no S/AMOLED displays for an Apple device.

We have talked about numerous iPad specs and features but we've all pretty much assumed Apple would stick with LED lit LCD with IPS panels, given the success they have had with current iPhone 4 and iPad displays. AMOLED can be beautiful and performance in daylight has improved but both technologies still have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Imagining iPad 2

iPad 2 rumors have been making their way through the internet pretty much since the day after the current iPad debuted but lately they've picked up considerable speed. Leaks have come from supposed manufacturers and suppliers, of course, but given the time of year and Apple's refresh cycles for iOS devices to date, we could be seeing an iPad 2 announcement as early as January/February and a release in April. Either way it's coming. We all know it's coming. (We've even discussed whether or not you should get an iPad now or wait for iPad 2 next year). But what will it be like?

Based on rumors to date, I'm going make some guesses... after the break.

iPad 2 to sport FaceTime, gyroscope, Retina Display, USB? [rumor

A Chinese newspaper is claiming, based on "industry sources", that five new features will be coming with the next generation iPad 2, including video phone, new display technology, 3-axis gyroscope, "better mobility", and USB.

iPod touch 4 has Retina Display but no IPS

Apple didn't list IPS (inter plane switching) as part of the iPod touch 4 specs for a reason -- the iPod touch 4 screen, while LED and "Retina Display" 960x640 resolution lacks the IPS technology of the iPhone 4 display.

IPS, which Apple has rolled out for everything from iMac to iPad to iPhone 4 provides a much greater viewing range than a standard display.

So the still camera isn't the only step down when you go from iPhone 4 to iPod touch, but does anyone out there care as much about IPS?
