Messages for macOS is great for chatting with friends using iMessage, but you can also use the app to receive standard SMS text messages relayed from your iPhone. As long as your iPhone and Mac are signed in to the same iCloud account.

How to turn on SMS Relay for your Mac

  1. Make sure you're signed in to the same iCloud account on both your iPhone and your Mac.
  2. On your iPhone, open Settings.
  3. Scroll down to Messages.
  4. Tap Text Message Forwarding.

    Open Settings, go to Messages, tap Text Message Forwarding

  5. Next to your Mac's name on the list of available devices, make sure the switch is flipped On. The switch should be green.

  6. If you are not using iCloud's two-factor authentication, a code will appear in Messages on your Mac, which you should then enter on your iPhone when prompted.

  7. If you entered a code, hit Allow.
