What's on Ally's iPhone right now!

We've already decided on our best apps of 2013 but we still want you to know our most personal ones — the apps we have given primetime spots on our Home screens. Rene's already shared his iPad Air setup so now I'm going to share what's on my iPhone 5s, at least for right now. See, the first page of my Home screen rarely ever stays the same for more than a few weeks. I switch apps based on what I need and like at the time. There are a few staples, however, that might get shuffled but never get bumped. Here they are!

Instagram Direct now lets you send private and group messages

Instagram has updated their app to 5.0, bringing their new Instagram Direct messaging feature. With Instagram Direct, you can send messages, pictures, and videos to other people privately. Between one and fifteen people can participate in a conversation, and all conversations must begin with a photo or video.

Instagram comes to Windows Phone, brings some great photographers along with it

Instagram was originally iPhone-only, but eventually expanded to Android. Now, Instagram (beta) has landed on Windows Phone]() as well. That means not only will there be even more great photos to enjoy, but even more great photographers to enjoy the from. Instagram advertising is coming, and now we know what it's going to look like

Instagram advertising is coming, we can't avoid it, and now we get our first look at what it's going to look like in our streams. The good news; the ads don't appear to jump out and smack you in the face as such. And, initially the rollout will be conducted with a select group of partners.

Instagram quietly removes option to disable auto-play for videos as advertising beckons

While Instagram's latest update to the iOS app promised improvements, it also seems to have quietly removed something many of us may miss. Checking into the app settings now, there is no longer a toggle to disable video auto-play. For those of us not so keen on Instagram videos, that's more than a little annoying.

Instagram updated with official iOS 7 support, brings larger images and higher resolution

Instagram has just announced on their blog that they've released version 4.2 on the App Store which brings with it official support for iOS 7 as well as an updated look and feel to match the new design of iOS. Even more, the new design now allows for larger image sizes all around which means better resolution, according to Instagram:

Ads coming to Instagram in the next year

Instagram had to make money someday, and after being acquired by Facebook, it's clear that the strategy is going to lie in advertising. In a recent interview, Facebook's Emily White described her challenges in roping in advertisers to Instagram while not scaring off the user base.
