We knew it was coming, but now Mailbox for iPad is here! Released today into the App Store, Mailbox for iPad provides the same great email experience as the iPhone version but optimized for the larger screen. The iPad version comes by way of an update to the main app.
Microsoft has launched their new Windows 8 commercial, and appears to have recruited Siri to help them take on the iPad. OK, so Siri would never do such a thing, but they're licensing the same voice, and it achieves the same effect. The 30-second clip takes aim at what the iPad can't do, that a Windows 8 tablet can. The whole thing is a parody of an Apple ad, right down to the chopsticks played on Garageband at the end.
The Burj Al Arab in Dubai is one of the most luxurious hotels in the world. Staying there requires a healthy bank balance, but the luxury speaks for itself. Recently, the hotel installed Macs in each room at the all-suite hotel, in an effort to offer a "thoroughly modern guest experience." Their latest trick; 24-carat gold iPads in every room.
10.6 million tablets is a whole heck of a lot, and that's the number that the Turkish Prime Minister is talking about purchasing. Recep Erdoğan is visiting the U.S. on a very large shopping spree, and is visiting Microsoft, Google and Apple personally, before splashing the cash.
Magnets are bad for implanted defibrillators, this isn't a new discovery. The iPad 2 onwards contains magnets, those little ones around the edges to hold down the Smart Cover and the top of the Smart Case. Combining these two pieces of information, a science project by 14-year-old Gianna Chien has determined that the iPad might not be the best thing to hold close to your chest if you have one of these devices implanted. Bloomberg reports:
In today's conference call after the Q2 2013 fiscal results, Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer revealed that Apple products are selling like gangbusters in East Asia. In China and Japan both, iPad sales more than doubled this quarter from the quarter the year prior. In China specifically, iPad sales were up 138% from last year.
Status Board is a way to keep track of all the stuff you care about, delightfully rendered and presented on your iPad. That it comes from the obscenely talented team at Panic is no surprise. Based on a custom big screen status board they whipped for their office, the production version of Status Board offers a lot of the same charm, and in an easy to customize package.
3 years ago today, Apple shipped the original iPad Wi-Fi. It had been called unimaginative. It had been called unnecessary. Even after Steve Jobs had taken the stage only a few months earlier and made the case that there was room for a new product category between the smartphone and the laptop, even after Apple's multitouch interface had mainstreamed computing like never before, it was called "just a big iPhone".
