iOS 4.1 for iPhone, iPod touch next week, iOS 4.2 for iPad in November

As part of their special music event today, Steve Jobs announced iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iPod touch would be coming next week, and iOS 4.2 for iPad would be coming in November.

iOS 4.1 includes everything we've seen so far, including bug fixes for the proximity sensor, Bluetooth, iPhone 3G performance. It also adds HDR photos, HD YouTube uploads, TV rentals, and Game Center.

iOS 4.2 includes all of iOS 4.1 along with wireless printing and AirPlay, which replaces airtunes and adds streaming video and pictures.

Both will be free updates.

Will the next iPod nano be a little square?

Back in July we saw an Apple labeled 1.5" touchscreen and wondered if it would be for a tiny, multitouch nano. Now some new cases, purportedly for the same device, makes us wonder much the same again.

Would it run iOS? Could it, with a screen that small? You could fit, what, 2x2 icons for a grid of 4 apps total? Web browsing probably wouldn't be included, but could it have ports of all the usual nano music, photos, video, and other assorted functionality?

Crazy next-gen iPod, iPad, and iPhone rumors

Could Apple be getting ready to release a 7" iPad nano and re-designed iPhone 5 as early as January? Could the iPod shuffle or nano with a 1.7" screen be around the corner in September? Are bumpers going all-silicone?

Our gut says crazy talk, but iLounge has a pretty good track record on leaks so take these for what they're worth, even if it's with an ocean-sized grain of salt.

Here are some details:

Updated: Hulu Plus for iPad, iPod touch, and iPhone announced

Update: The Hulu Plus application [iTunes Link - Free] is now available within the App Store. We viewed some of the free content on a iPhone 4 over AT&T's 3G network and it streamed flawlessly.

Today that rumor of Hulu introducing a premium paid service has come true as they have officially announced Hulu Plus. It will run you a cool $9.99/month and that will give you streaming access - via Wi-Fi or 3G - to entire seasons of shows that are already available on the free web service along with other programming that is not available on Hulu's website. And the good news is it's just not for iPads but rather every device in the iOS family - iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad. There will also be future support for a countless number of other devices such as the Playstation 3 (July) and Xbox 360 (2011). If this sounds like your cup of tea be sure to sign up for the preview invite here.

How many of you are getting ready to do away with your cable or satellite TV service?

Note: If you're a fan of iStat Menus on the Mac, they're running a poll [Google Spreadsheet link] on future versions so head on over and let them know what you think about price points and features.
