Comcast reported to be considering their own mobile service provider business

Comcast may branch out from cable and landline internet, moving into the wireless service arena in the future. According to a report out of The Information, Comcast has been looking into the idea of creating a nationwide wireless phone network that relies primarily on Wifi with back-up service leased from already-established cellular carriers.

Instead of having to pursue purchasing large blocks of wireless spectrum and rights to traditional cellular towers, Comcast would leverage its currently-available network of Wifi hotspots to provide the majority of traffic for phones. Its Wifi network is growing with installations of public access points — over a million across various markets — in large cities and special residential routers that Comcast provides with a publicly-available signal in over eight million homes. But it naturally wouldn't be able to cover the entire country comprehensively — that's where other carriers come in.

Apple sells over 2 million iPhone 5 handsets in China over launch weekend

Apple has announced that it has sold over two million iPhone 5 handsets in China after just three days since its official launch. The iPhone 5 went on sale in China on Friday December 14 and by end of play on Sunday, Apple had sold over 2 million devices. The roll out doesn't stop in China either; more countries will get the iPhone 5 soon making a total of 100 countries by the end of this year.

Virgin Mobile USA announce iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S on pre-paid starting June 29th

As we originally heard last week, Virgin Mobile USA has officially announced that it will offer the iPhone starting on June 29th. The iPhone will be offered as a pre-paid handset on its network and will be avilable on pre-paid tarriffs as low as $30 a month.

Facebook for iPhone, iPad about to get mobile ads

Facebook has announced they'll be bringing ads to all of their mobile apps, including the official Facebook for iPhone app in addition to the new iPad app. Mobile ads will be integrated into the news feed and will roll out immediately. They also plan to introduce premium ads on the desktop logout screen.

Google in hot water after allegedly bypassing Apple’s Safari browser privacy settings

Google is facing an inquest after it was discovered that it had been bypassing Apple’s Safari privacy settings on its Mac and iOS platforms. Google, Vibrant Media Inc., WPP PLC's Media Innovation Group LLC and Gannett Co.'s PointRoll Inother advertising companies have been tracking the web browsing habits of Safari and Safari Mobile users even though Safari has built in security protection to prevent that from happening.

Valve’s Steam Mobile hits the App Store, connect with your Steam Friends on the go

Valve has released Steam Mobile for iPhone, iPod touch into the App Store. Sort of. It is available to download and install on your iOS device, but unfortunately you need to be part of a limited beta to actually begin to use it. Elgato EyeTV Mobile now available for the iPad 2 [video]

Elgato has announced that its EyeTV Mobile DVB-T tuner is now available for the iPad 2. The EyeTV Mobile was announced back in August and is now beginning to ship. The tuner clips into the 30 pin dock connector on the iPad 2 and comes complete with a telescopic aerial. The tuner is a DVB-T freeview tuner which is geared towards the European market.
