Apple rumored to be working on an iPad mini with a higher resolution display and a significantly lighter new iPad

Of course Apple is already working on a new iPad mini with a higher resolution screen, and a full-sized iPad that will be thinner. Apple is always working on better, next generation versions of their devices. However, if you want to scratch "supposedly said so by sources in the supply-chain" off your rumor list, now you can.

Adobe Photoshop goes Retina for Mac

Roughly 6 months after Apple released the first Retina Mac, Adobe has updated Photoshop to make use of every one of those double-density pixels (aka HiDPI). Adobe was expected to go Retina by the end of the year, and they made it with weeks to spare.

iPad mini is here, and some thoughts on non-Retina

Apple has begun selling the iPad 4 and iPad mini around the world, and while crowds have been much, much smaller than iPhone launches, which stands to reason, they've also been smaller than previous iPad launches. This is Apple's second full-size iPad launch of the year, however, and pre-orders have taken a lot of wind out of in-store, launch day crowds.

Adobe to bring Retina support to Photoshop CS6 and more "this fall"

Adobe has finally elaborated and expanded upon their previous pledge of bringing Photoshop to the Retina MacBook Pro "this year", bringing the target date down to a more proximate "this fall". And what's more, it won't just be Photoshop CS6 that's getting the Retina -- or more generically, HiDPI -- support.

Apple has sent an e-mail to developers informing them that new submissions will require icons that are 1024 x 1024 pixels starting in July. This is a sharp increase from the current minimum of 512 x 512, though apple has been recommending 1024 x 1024 for awhile now.

New iPad wallpapers coming with the release of iOS 5.1

According to a find by Mark Gurman over at 9to5Mac, Apple will refresh the stock iPad wallpapers when it eventually gets round to releasing iOS 5.1 to the public. iOS 5.1 is currently in its second beta phase and as there is no sign of a Gold Master release we have no idea when it will become available to all.

Sharp set to supply LCD panels for the iPad 3

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Apple will add Sharp to its list of LCD panel manufacturers, specifically for the next generation iPad. The information comes from people familiar with the situation. Apple is apparently looking to diversify component suppliers for its products and as Sharp is already manufacturing LCD panels for the iPhone; it makes sense for Apple to add it to the supply chain for the iPad too.

Sharp’s Kameyama No.2 plant in Japan will be used to manufacture the panels. It is also believed that Apple is investing in Sharp’s Japanese manufacturing facilities to ensure preferential treatment when it comes to component availability and pricing.
