T-Mobile USA rumored to be announcing the iPhone today

T-Mobile USA is rumored to be getting the iPhone today. The last of big four networks in the US without the iPhone, T-Mobile has an event scheduled for later today -- called Uncarrier -- and that's where the announcement 6 years in the making is supposed to take place. Roger Cheng from CNET reports:

The iPhone is critical to T-Mobile's plans to remake itself as the "different" carrier. It will be the marquee product illustrating its new no-contract, no-subsidy rules, where a customer pays a small fee upfront and pays a monthly charge on top of the service plan to cover the phone costs.

T-Mobile activating 100,000 iPhones per month, now supports 1.9 million devices

According to T-Mobile CEO John Legere, the company is seeing a huge intake of new iPhone customers and this is before it actually officially has the phone on its network. Speaking at their 2013 Citi Global Conference in Las Vegas today, Mr Legere claimed that T-Mobile was seeing around 100,000 iPhone activations every month. He also claimed that T-Mobile serves around 1.9 million iPhones on its network.

Continuing their long-running expansion program, T-Mobile has now announced 10 new metro areas that will be making use of the 1900 MHz spectrum they gained from AT&T when their merger failed. Shared database will allow AT&T and T-Mobile to curb smartphone theft

AT&T and T-Mobile are joining forces in order to try and curb the rising rate of stolen smartphones by way of a shared database project backed by both the CTIA and FCC. The system will allow either carrier to flag an IMEI number as stolen which will render the device useless on either network.

AT&T and T-Mobile to share networks in New York and New Jersey

AT&T and T-Mobile USA have agreed to share their networks in New York and New Jersey in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. As both carriers operate GSM and UMTS networks, compatible devices can switch between either AT&T and T-Mobile with little trouble. Calls, texts, and data will go through whichever network has the most capacity in a given area. With reports of cell service outages thoughout New York and New Jersey, this agreement will allow people affected by those outages to utilize their phones if either network is operational. Service agreements will not be affected.

All 700 Orange and T-Mobile shops to be re-branded as EE by the end of the month

Today EE (formerly Everything Everywhere) announced that all 700 of the Orange and T-Mobile stores will be re-branded as EE by the end of the month to coincide with the 4G roll out. The news arrives along with some special EE staff training that is happening at the NEC in Birmingham where 12,000 internal staff and 3000 partners will learn about the new brand.
