Apple announced a new Apple A8 processor when the Cupertino, California company debuted its new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones. The 64-bit processor is an evolution of the A7 processor introduced last year, but with major performance improvements while being more power efficient.
The A8 is said to be 50 times faster than the original iPhone in processing power and with graphics that is up to 84 times faster. Built on a small 20-nanometer process, the A8 contains 2 billion transistors that makes it 25 percent faster than the A7 on the iPhone 5s.
Yet, despite the huge improvements on the A8 processing power, the new chip is 50 percent more efficient than the last generation A7.
