iPhone Accessories Can Now Prompt for App Download
iLounge has noticed that, when connecting to an accessory that supports iPhone 3.x SDK’s dock access abilities:
an alert box labeled “Application Not Installed” appears, informing users that the accessory requires an application which is not currently installed, and asking if they would like to install the application from the App Store. Upon acceptance, the iPhone or iPod touch then takes users to a new “For This Accessory” page on the App Store, with a direct link to the necessary app’s listing, from which they can download and install the application.
They show how it works for the iTrip, but this is a very “just works” solution in general for users who may not be aware when companion apps are available.

Ok… So where are the accessories then? Besides the TomTom car kit, I haven’t seen anything being marketed as an accessory to my sweet iPhone. Also, where are the video editing apps??

@Matt: maybe for Americans, but here in Canada my signal strength is always full. Also, my battery never dips below 50 unless I do something stupid like leaving Bluetooth on all day while working.

Yea everyone knows if you have service in one area, the rest of the country has perfect service. Also, only Americans have battery problems.

My battery seems better on 3.1 but I still charge every night. As for signal the Rogers ndetwork is very good but I definately get better reception on the motorola krzr my wife has than on the iPhone

I visited Canada last week, and my battery recharged itself as we crossed the border. True story – it needed the extra juice to compute the data roaming charging

Don’t you find it sad that leaving Bluetooth on all day should be considered “stupid”? I NEVER turned off Bluetooth on my old Palm Treo 650 and the battery would last for 3 days.
Also, it’s stupid to never let your battery dip below 50%. You should let it drain all the way down at least once a month.

is there a list of “plug in” accessories out there?
Can you post a list of accessories that exist? I haven’t heard of anything besides the iTrip (which I used just fine without any apps, what app does it need? maybe I had an old model).
I really really want there to be an ipod camera connector that works with the ipod touch. The ipods still don’t have a camera, but even if they did, my digital camera is better. When traveling I don’t want to lug around a laptop but it would be great to be able to offload some of my photos onto my ipod touch both for storage space and to email them to friends! I know there are internet cafes and stuff but its just not the same.
