Apple Shows Off "Family Travel" iPhone Commercial

Apple Family Travel ad

It seems like "On hold" and "First steps" weren't the only new, activity-focused commercials Apple had ready for the iPhone as "Family Travel" has now made its Olympic debut as well.

"Family travel" highlights Southwest Airlines [Free - iTunes link] for pre-checkin, Gate Guru [Free - iTunes link] to find the kids a snack, and the built-in iPod app to play them a little Finding Nemo while they wait. Oh, and some Schlage LiNK [Free - iTunes link] to make sure the lights were off at home. End line: "That's why I don't go anywhere without my iPhone."

So the transition from "App for that" and "App for just about anything" to focused, lifestyle-specific "look what you can do with your iPhone" ads is now complete. Interesting to see how they go about step-by-step educational strategies even in their commercials...

  1. Really caters to the procrastinating, disorganized parents like myself. :) Now if there were only an app to pack the bags, change the diapers and drop the dog off at the kennel, I'd be all set.

  2. Matt says:

Do we really need a post every time apple releases a new commercial? This seems pointless and stupid.

  3. chrisr says:

I don't think it is stupid cuz I don't watch eneough tv to know that they even have new commercials. So I like the updates

  4. Dennis says:

It's pretty clear that Apple is engaging in aggressive monitoring of the blogosphere and uses that information to construct and schedule the release of advertisements. That's one reason why keeping track of Apple's advertisements is worthwhile.

  5. Orion2021 says:

    @Dennis

    agreed.

Also. I watch less than 5 hours of tv a week so I would neever know about them otherwise

If the title does not intrest you then don't read the article.

  7. Nancy Foster says:

Their commercials are slick but the average user knows they can't use all those apps as quickly as they do!

  8. Courtney says:

This is a great article that really covers many things I have seen in response to these advertisements. I have to agree with Dennis and Orion2021 because I now only watch TV online because cable just bugged me personally. Just one thing I would like to add, Schlage LiNK was given a repeat performance in this commercial. It was previously seen in the "12 Days of Christmas" commercial in December. Schlage LiNK is known to iPhone users as the app that "can turn on the lights." It does more than turn your lights on and off it can also lock and unlock your doors, live-stream footage from security cameras and control your thermostat. Something new in this commercial is that the app can tell you whether your lights were on in the first place. It is a great incentive for those of us who worry about if we turned off the oven while on vacation. Schlage says: "LiNK is a home-management solution that allows homeowners to monitor and control features of their home through any computer and most Web-enabled mobile phones. It’s built on Z-Wave technology. You can read more about it here: http://link.schlage.com" For those of you who would like to know more about it straight from the company please check out this link as well: http://link.schlage.com/remote_management/Pages/MobileAccess.aspx Full Disclosure: I work with Schlage LiNK and thought you guys might like the new commercial and travel app option. If you have any questions about my comment or Schlage LiNK feel free to contact me.
