iPhone speed typing

Once again proving that iPhone users don't need no stinkin' hardware keyboards, this YouTube'r claims 83 words a minute on iTextSpeed [$0.99 - iTunes link] which would be impressive on a full-sized desktop, never mind an iPhone.

And if you've got mad iPhone typing skills, feel free to drop your numbers in the comments as well! (I got 22 words correct, 0 incorrect, 43 words per minute).

Video after the break!

54 on the lite 15 seconds version

  2. Pinny says:

Results are kinda bogus as it uses words the iPhone auto corrects. Either you should turn off autocorrect or else use an actual paragraph of varied text, with punctuation and numbers.

That said, that guy types freakishly fast!

  3. Liam Darling says:

    Wow. He was fast !

  4. fastlane says:

I can type very fast when I'm typing my thoughts. But, I never do as well with these tests where I have to type what I read... it's definitely slower, and not really a true representation of how we usually type our emails, texts, etc.

I think I was somewhere between 45 and 50 on a different (web app) test about a year ago.

  5. Macboy15 says:

I got 48 as a high so far. Had the iPhone since intro in '07. So I guess I'm not to bad but not as fast as Jimmy fingers 83. I can definetly type faster on the iPhone screen then any other phone Ive had. My buddy has a moto droid and we did a little race and I smoked him. But his phone froze up at the half way mark. Stupid google.

  6. MrC says:

@Fastlane: Same here. A test that just automatically times you entering any text records self-corrections and performs basic spell checking at the end would be more representational for me.

@Pinny: this isn't just a demo of typing on any soft keyboard but rather the iPhone's keyboard. The auto-correct is an integral part of typing on the iPhone as much as the other things it does like increase the target areas for keys that continue to spell a valid word.

If anything I would like to see the auto-correct feature expanded to correct common typos like letters entered in teh wrong order or entirly missed letters.

  8. mrsleep says:

You may not need a stinking keyboard, but it was awesome the other day, I was listening to music, downloading a podcast, and playing a game of Sudoku all at once on my Droid, the guy sitting across the aisle from me, could only listen to music on his iPhone. Just because it has a keyboard, doesn't mean you have to use it, but at least you have the option.

  9. Kris says:

@Mrsleep: You can do all that on the iPhone as well. It does have some multitasking capibilities. The iPod app and iTunes app can both run in the background. You use any other app (like Sudoku) while listening to music and downloading a podcast. No problem ;-)

  10. GRmatt says:

@mrsleep You are making Droid users look like ignorant fools. Not only can you do all of that on an iPhone as well, but it is probably faster at doing so.

On mobiletypingtest.com I got 96 words per minute with no errors with my HTC Touch Pro.

    Holy sh-tttt!!!!

  13. alex says:

i have the lite version of the app and have consistently gotten 50 wpm with 100% accuracy. i could probably do faster if my 3G wasn't so slow...

  14. ggjeffy says:

Nice to see there is yet another way to divide our country. Droid vs. I-phone.

  15. Jerry says:

@Kris .. Can he listen to Pandora or Slacker Radio while doing that?

    I doubt it..

  16. Onelove says:

I can do all that on my jailbroken iPhone.  Isn't having a phone all about personalizing it? Isn't jailbreaking a form of personalizing? My whole view on jailbreaking is it's just another form of personalization just like aftermarket parts are with cars. I'm just happy to have the option to do so.
