Android running on iPhone -- is there anything the elite iPhone jailbreak hackers can't do? Still slow to (dual-)boot and awkward given the iPhone's lack of physical buttons, but it's there in all it's gory glory.

Depending on you tastes, this is either awesome beyond belief or yet another sign of the applepocalypse, check out the video after the break and let us know!

  3. Cobra5mil says:

    Only working on the original iPhone. He claims it will be fairly easy to get it on the 3G, but the 3GS will be more work.

  4. OmariJames says:

    Interesting.

    Ps. U made a tiny mistake in spelling in the second paragraph.

  5. ChaibyNight says:

    Alright Google, we proved that iPhone can run your OS...your turn.

  6. iBri says:

    What do you expect when you're advertising the Droid on your site's top banner.

  7. iPFL says:

    I think this is brilliant! I like my iPhone but, I love the Motorolla DROID technology (or the OS), can you restore your phone back to the OS for the iPhone, if you jailbreak it? If so, I wanna try it 

  8. MintOreo says:

    @ChaibyNight "You" didn't prove anything. Unless you're the guy in the video, I don't think you have bragging rights. And porting Android is old news. WM devices have been able to do this for months.

    Iphone's hardware doesn't support the Android no matter how well the software ports. Just use the regular OS.

  9. Davo says:

    is just a theme!!

  10. Vic says:

    Pretty cool but I fail to see why anyone would prefer the android operating system over the iPhone os. I guess in my eyes if you really want android or are philosophically opposed to buying apple products or being on at&ts network I could see one prefering android. But other than that it's pretty much a consensus that the iPhone software is more reliable, easier to use and more compatible with other software (with jailbreak anyway).

  11. iDavey says:

    Android....going where no OS has gone before.

    Is there any phone safe from Droid invasion? BB is next...

  12. Edie says:

    OH NO! iPhone is now a tranny :(

  13. CupertinoSweat says:

    why would i wanna install a crap os on my iphone?

  14. Wil says:

    That would be sweet!

  15. Dragonfly says:

    This is a sacrilege!

  16. thedave says:

    Hope they get it up and working for the 3gs.

  17. gullum says:

    To all those asking why? simply because it can. it's the same reason we get jailbreak. It's also the same reason windows came to mac and mac came to Windows pc. Someone was wondering if it was possible and got motivated by that.

  18. Luc Richard says:

    I'm pretty sure most of us don't jailbreak just because we can, we do it for amazing features the iPhone should already have.

  19. Lulz at apple fanboys says:

    @ChaibyNight lulz at you. Writing this from my iPhone.

  20. gullum says:

    @ Luc Richard that was not what I wanted to say sorry. What I meen to say was the reason we have jailbreak is because someone was wondering if it was possible and got motivated by that.

  21. ShevonJames says:

    Why am I not surprised?!

  22. Jose John says:

    this is about as cool as booting up into windows on a MBP... good to have the option, but it's definitely second rate to osx.

  23. fastlane says:

    This is just plain nasty. :lol:

  24. m1n0r says:

    Adobe abandons iPhone, shifts focus to Android. Guy ports Android to iPhone. Adobe: .

  25. m1n0r says:

    Adobe abandons iPhone, shifts focus to Android. Guy ports Android to iPhone. Adobe: explodes.

  26. DrModem says:

    Very interesting.

    When this is ported to the newer iPhones and the bugs smoothed out, with dual booting iPhone users can get the best of both worlds.

  27. Orion says:

    Dual booting on the iPhone FTW!!!!!

  28. I want to se Mac OS X on iPad.

  29. Nigel Tufnel says:

    I haven't used an Android phone yet, but if that's the user experience, no thanks. Looks ugly and clunky, slow scrolling, awkward zooming, bleh.

  30. Nigel Tufnel says:

    "I want to se Mac OS X on iPad."

    Just use any of the VNC apps. There you go.

  31. Random says:

    @Nigel Tufnel That is stock Android 1.x, running poorly I might add. Newer android phones are much faster, smoother, and possibly HTC Sense UI.

  32. Dantv says:

    Why would I want to run a substandard OS on my iPhone when the default OS is the best mobile OS in the world? Fracking waste of time!

  33. Johnsen says:

    @dantv

    why? omg, what question...for porn of course :D

    remember what steve said "want porn, go buy an android" ... but now we don't need to buy an android.

    Steve would say "This is so amazing, so incredible, great! The world is moving with IDroid, The Amazing Iphone OS with the great Porndroid, and ofcourse dualboot. Save mone and buy an IDroid."

  34. justanothergamer says:

    @dantv

    Best mobile OS in the world? With all the restrictions and inability to customise anything? There is one reason why so many people jailbreak their iPhones, you know. People are not happy with the OS, because you can only do what you're told.

    4x5 icons 4 icons dock static icons on homescreen stock icons no customisation except changing wallpaper inability to scroll through 10 pages of springboard with ease inability to turn on/off wifi, 3G, flight mode, etc with ease no widgets (having to tap to just check the weather or calendar events?) pseudo-multitasking ..

    Call me an apple hater all you want, I just want control of my own phone (that's the reason I upgraded to a smartphone, to have something that do what I want it to do).

  35. Colin says:

    I'm sorry, I know I'm biased having been an iPhone user for a while, but I think the android os is far inferior to the iPhone os, its buggy, slow and just isn't appealing at all. I get it that by jailbreaking you can customize your iPhone however you want, but this is ridiculous. Why would someone work so hard on this?

  36. Dantv says:

    @justanothergame

    Sorry dude but the iPhone is the best mobile smartphone OS for the masses. You geeks can go over to Google and get everything you want for free. I'm willing to bet that the next Google phone will be free. Google needs to know everything about you so that they can SPAM you with ads. I'm surprised that the Geeks of the world even support that company. They are a cleverly disguised advertising firm.

  37. MintOreo says:

    @Dantv

    "You geeks can go over to Google and get everything you want for free."

    Gee... let's think about this.. On one hand, I have Iphone telling me what I can or can't do, ..with an ass hole CEO and an antiquated UI.. and apparently, according to your logic, I'd be paying for it. On the other hand, I can have a Google phone, like, oh, I don't know, the Evo 4G for free. And apparently everyhing else I want.. for free.

    Let's think about that! What would be the better thing to do??

    /sarcasm.

  40. Iphone3 says:

    You iphone fanboys are so fcking ignorant, you have been brainwash and turn into an apple zombies. Rene Ritchie is an ass-hole feeding you apple garbage. 1st the port is android 1.5 an old os of android, 2nd any os which is not supported by iphone hardware will be basically slow as hell. Go figure. Stupid zombies

  41. MintOreo says:

    @Iphone3

    Lmao. Funny post... but the sad thing is true. See, it's funny, if you look at the issue. People apparently WANT Android enough to port it over to other hardware. I've seen it on WM, Palm and now finally Apple. What does that say about Android? Heh

    And, seriously, this Apple VS Android thing is ****ing stupid. Android isn't perfect. And Apple sure as heck isn't. So, why the constant bickering about it? This especially goes to Rene who HAS to do anything to make the Iphone look like the bigger of the phones. It's pathetic. I have yet to read an article here reading other phones that gives credit where it's due.. if anything, it's always the other way around.. he has to try to validate the Iphone by belittling the other phones. "Oh, you don't have x feature? We do!" I understand defending your platform, but the way it's done here is beyond fanatical, one-sided and gives Iphone users a crappy rap of being like sheep. Over on the Android side of things, I see similar mentality towards Apple, but at the least they're willing to give credit to where it's due.. over here, it's never that way. You have that idiotic brainwashed sentiment which all Iphone fanboys have a bad rap for.

    Sad. I guess the best way to say all this paraphrased is... Get off Steve Job's nuts already.

    WhO would want that crap OS on their iPhone?
