Frash: Android Flash for iPad

Frash is an effort to take Android's Flash implementation and get it working on an iPad, Jailbreak style. Brought to you by comex, the mind behind the Spirit Jailbreak, it follows up on his efforts to get Flash up on iPhone and iPod touch. How's it look? Check the video after the break.

Frash is a port of the Adobe Flash runtime for Android to the iPhone, using a compatibility layer, by comex ( http://twitter.com/comex ). Frash can currently run most Flash programs natively in the MobileSafari browser. Frash currently only runs on the iPad, but support for other devices (3GS+ only due to technical restrictions) is planned, as well as support for iOS 4.

A release is planned for when Frash is stable. Developers are welcome to join the effort at http://github.com/comex/frash – fork it and send a pull request with your patches.

Shot on an iPhone 4 and edited using iMovie on the phone.

  11. nate says:

  12. TK says:

I'm with nate, I thought you iOS guys hated Flash.

  13. Dorito says:

Android isn't good I don't think apple should take any part. Remember flash isn't needed bc Jobs says so.

  14. zmoolah says:

I don't care how stable it is. I'm ready for a release. I don't care if it crashes every once in a while.

  15. Orion2021 says:

Um. I Love Adobe Photoshop but Im with Jobs on this one. Flash is a waste of resources on the phone. I embrace Steve Jobs vision of the future, bring on the second generation IPad so I can buy it.

  16. ekie84 says:

stop with the "flash" thing now...just do what your MASTER says so

  17. Glenn says:

I have never had good experience with adobe, or flash. Good example, on the pc got the message there was an adobe update. I downloaded it, and got a message "could not download file. File not recognized by adobe". It's your file. You sent me a file you don't recognize? On my old palm os, after an update of adobe, syncing always would not clean up. Open database error. Did a hard reset, and went through every app one at a time, and synced no problem for about 5 syncs, after that, open database error again. Deleted adobe, and no more problems. I am sorry, but until they really do a major fix, I can live without it fir now.

Flash vs. H264 equals win for consumers. Any salient bullet point against one or the other standard mostly boils down to programming. I side with queen bee jobs for now. Once he attempts to patent any HTML5 codecs or conventions, then the hive will need a socialism vaccination.

  19. Dorito says:

Your dictator says Just Say No to Flash. Follow every rule that your Jobs set for you.

"Once he attempts to patent any HTML5 codecs or conventions, then the hive will need a socialism vaccination."

Ha.. who do you think has a stake in MPEGLA .. the patent holding company that retains the rights to h264

    http://www.mpegla.com/main/programs/AVC/Pages/Licensors.aspx

Notice how Microsoft is also on the list and take a look at the only codec MS has stated they will support with IE9.

Sorry everyone, these companies don't have your best interests at heart ;)
