Apple launches free iPhone 4 bumper case website, app
Apple’s free iPhone 4 bumper/case program has just gone live on the web… and in an app. (Insert app for that joke here if you really, really have to).
If you haven’t bought a bumper already:
- Download the iPhone 4 Case Program app from the App Store. 2 Launch the app on your iPhone 4 and sign in using your iTunes Store account or Apple ID.
- Select your Bumper or case.
For iPhone 4 purchases made before July 23, 2010, you must apply no later than August 22, 2010; otherwise, you must apply within 30 days of your iPhone 4 purchase. To qualify for this program, you must purchase your iPhone 4 by September 30, 2010.
There’s also information on how to get a refund for those who did purchase a bumper already from Apple or AT&T.

Interesting enough, if you try that from the Canadian iTunes store it doesn’t work (“The item you were looking for cannot be found”). That doesn’t surprise me, however, as I suspect they’ll probably just give you your case when you get the phone from the store starting next week.

Got the speck fitted one .
I noticed the small print under the info on downloading the case app. So prior to downloading, I followed the link for people who had purchased a Bumper from Apple…and discovered they had already credited my credit card with the full price of the Bumper. Sweet!
If I go and buy a bumper today, can I just get it, go home, and apply for a refund? Rather than waiting 3-5 weeks for apple to send one?

Griffin Reveal Etch looks pretty cool. That’s the one I went with.

So, the bumpers are pretty crappy in my opinion. The clear cases look cool but also cheap! Not a big deal but which are the best cases in the app?

I’m disappointed by the lack of color. The only visual interesting case is the Speck Fitted Case. I don’t expect colored cases from the other case makers but I expected Apple to offer all Bumper colors.
For those with a bumper….is it a decent case? Wanted to go no case, so thought bumper might be minimalist case.
I was hoping that they would offer the bumpers in different colors like orange, but they are only offering black right now. However, the bigger problem comes in when the colored bumpers are not offered in the new case app and not available in the applestore.com anymore since the case race went into effect. HOW DO I GET AN ORANGE BUMPER? Are they still selling them at actual apple stores?

@Steve – If you purchased by credit card, take a look at the bottom left of this page (http://www.apple.com/iphone/case-program/) where it says “credit card” underneath “if you bought from Apple.”
@Tuna I really like the Reveal, I think it is the best choice out of the selection.
I Also Got the Speck Fitted Case, now lets see how long i can stop my iPhone from getting scratch before I get the case.
I already have a Speck fitted. It is really nice. I was looking at an Incipio Feather, but I guess I’ll try an Incase Snap for free first

I bought a flip-case from Marware – Not covered!
I’m not happy. I am deployed in the military and may or may not be back in August sometime. I cant download a damn app right now but I have internet. Oh wait! Apple makes you download some dumb app that will be used once and then deleted. Damn I am mad at Apple right now!!
If you bought a bumper with cash money apple will give you your money back. Lucky enough I downloaded the app, selected an additional free bumper and will be going to get my money back from apple. All in all a win win situation

Got the email last night that they are refunding my bumper purchase AND I ordered my free case. Win/win!

Also… More food for thought… If you opt for the bumper, they are still being sold on eBay for over 45 bucks. Just sayin’ possible profit opportunities? I kid, I kid. Lol

I would warn you guys about the belkin shield micra. I just returned this case to best buy mobile because the case actually starting turning yellow.

I keep getting “unable to process request” errors when I try to sign in with my itunes password.
Also, both myself, and my parents got our iPhones via AT&T. Will that make a difference?

BTW. Apple had a record Q3. Sure does not seem this antenna “issue” is having an effect on the company!

says my refund was processed, but checked my bank account..it’s not there yet.
@Rob I don’t think it matters where you got your iPhone from. I got mine from AT&T and I was able to order. Got my confirmation email and it says my case will be delivered by Sept 1st. (YIKES!!!)

okay, so far all 3 of the iphones 4′s i have access to (my own, and both my folks phones), get the “unable to process request” error when trying to log in via our iTunes accounts.

I must be missing something. I logged into the app, I can see the case options you get for free, where do I select refund for my bumper? Do you get a free case and a refund on your bumper?
Rene, are they only giving out the black bumper or do you get the option of getting a color bumper?

Also I read the info on their site. The refunds are automatic, not bad and the case is free, pretty cool. I have that just got my new MBP and 24″ LED display and this is my first iPhone (despite AT&T) I was not disappointed in the itself, but Apple needs to start putting function over form. These are phones looking pretty is nice but seriously they need to work right out of the box (with instructions too).

I received an email from Apple telling me that my case was being refunded. I haven’t seen any change in my bank statement however. Do I NEED the app in order to ensure I receive my refund, or just be patient and let Apple take care of their customers like they always do?
Also, the black bumper I have is nice, but don’t like the fact that non Apple accessories aren’t compatible/usable with this bumper. I have also ordered a Vapor 4 in yellow with the Carbon-finer back. Should ship next week. Can’t wait til it comes in!!
Today is the first day they released this app, so be patient if you keep getting the “unable to process request” error. I’m sure their servers are getting hammered as hard or harder than the day the iPhone 4 went on pre-order. It may take some time to get your request to go through.
I purchased a Speck Case from the AT&T store and have a receipt for $34.95.
Am I eligible for a refund and how do I apply. The Apple website has a rebate form only for Apple Bumpers.
“If you bought from an AT&T Store. We’ll reimburse you for the purchase price of your iPhone 4 Bumper. Just fill out this rebate coupon and mail it to us by September 30, 2010. We’ll send your rebate as soon as we process your claim.”
Got my case! It worked perfectly for me. Glad I saw this now, i bet it’s going to be slammed later!
@ematts I’m pretty sure the refund only applies to the Apple bumper, not the other cases.
I got the email notification letting me know that I would be refunded for the bumper I bought on launch day. And so I decided to try for the free case also. And it all went through on the app. I’ll believe it when I see the shipment notification but so far it worked. Give it a try if you got a refund for your bumper
I still cannot get into the app past the “Get Started” button. I enter my iTunes password and I get “unable to process request”. This happens on 3 different iPhone 4s, and 2 different iTunes accounts
I got in first thing this morning (got the Reveal Etch which looks sweet!). I just got confirmation email which says the delivery date is not till September 1st!!!! That is just redonkulous!!
An app to get your free case, pathetic.
Okay, so now it is 9:15. I was able to log in 4 times in a row with my dads unactivated iphone 4 (I set it to airplane mode so it would not sit in “waiting for activation” mode). I got a bumper ordered. I try to log into the app with my iPhone 4, and I still get the “cannot process your request at this time” error.

So any idea why there is no color other than black/smoke/clear available in any of these cases? To discourage color-inclined people from using the program? If I want a colored bumper, can I just walk into an Apple store and get it there + then refund it?

Hi, i logged on and off a few times cos i couldnt make up my mine. 30 mins later then I enter my password, to log on to get a case, it’s won’t let me in and says incorrect password or apple Id. Please help!
@Arik same problem here. Tried login on itunes mac, itunes iphone, and app updates which all worked but no luck with the case program app: incorrect apple id or password
