Upcoming Avengers movie uses video shot on iPhone
Seamus McGarvey, cinematographer of the upcoming Joss Whedon-helmed, Marvel Comics hero-filled Avengers movie, revealed in an interview with IFTN that some of the shots in the film were taken with an iPhone.
The beauty of photography or cinema is that you make every choice based on the content at hand. On The Avengers, I did a couple of shots on the iPhone and they are in the movie. In fact, they are in the trailer! I understand that sometimes there is no choice and you have to go for the cheapest option, but if you are limited for choice, you can still make poignant decisions that will effect the look of the film
Check out the trailer and let us know if you can figure out which Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow, or Hulk shots assembled into the Avengers movie are the iPhone ones.
UPDATE: McGarvey has issues a clarification to Hollywood Reporter saying iPhones were used on-set -- as phones and mobile devices -- but not used for filming.

I was going to say that. And didn't Hawkeye wear a mask in the comics? And what about the Scarlett Witch? And didn't the Punisher join up at some point in time? The situation looks dire enough in the trailer for some big guns.
True on all counts, but this is the start of the Avengers. These are the right six. I have a feeling they're going to phase the Hulk out quickly though and get Punisher or The Thing on the team.
This is the first Avengers team. Those all come later, and frankly, I hope they do!!

Yep, :47. Thor with the Hammer and the sun in the background. iPhone. Nice friggin composition though. It took freeze frame to spot it. Otherwise it blends perfectly.

I agree. The camera is more shaky than anywhere else. Though the Thor shot would make sense if they're off set and can't get a camera around all that rubble.
I think that's the "car-explosions" sequence, maybe... also: what's the heck? Mllion dollar movie - and some scene are shot with a cell? That's ridicolous! How we'll see them on a big cinema screen? All pixelated?
Im gonna guess the shot with Thor where the sun is in the background... and maybe some of the low shots on the street. Makes it looks a little grittier.
At 48 secs...close up of the hand (it's a split second insert). They'd never use an iphone for anything other than maybe an obscure quick split second shot. As a videographer myself, I must say that the iPhone may have a good camera but its still a cell phone and there are thousands of WAY better options available to shoot video with...let alone a film. My guess is they added it in there for publicity or some future marketing thing with Apple. Not a bad idea really. Put it in the trailer to get that promotional ball rolling.
