Bing for iPad gets updated, lasso search makes copy and paste a breeze

Bing for iPad has just received an update and added in a few new features. Bing is Microsoft’s alternative search engine) or decision engine as Microsoft likes to call it).

This new version introduces several user experience updates and a patented gesture based way to make searching easier with *lasso*. Simply lasso a word or phrase with your finger to do a search instead of copying and pasting into the search box. Search the way it was meant for the iPad.

I have never actually tried Bing myself but I would like to after seeing it in the video, which you can see after the break. Unfortunately Microsoft, for whatever crazy reason, hasn't made it available outside the United States!

Thank you for the review [lasso co-inventor]

Parkylondon says:

Does anyone have any idea why this App is US-only? I've heard so much about the App that I really want to use it but I can't because I am in the UK...

andsoitgoes says:

It takes literally 5 minutes to create a us based iTunes account. Once you create it, you are done,, and can install these us only apps.
It's inconvenient, but it's simple to do.
MS did this with one note too. Again, just signed into my us iTunes account and I'm good to go you don't need a credit card.

Richard Maddrell says:

Quite right Nick, I did same about a year ago and have quite a few USA only free apps. Bing works well over here in the UK too, mapping, and local'ish search.

eahinrichsen says:

My guess is that they haven't optimized non-US location-based search yet, which is a big part of what makes Bing useful.

Justin Kasad says:

Great Job Mario and the rest of the team

Lasso is imperfect. It doesn't allow users to circle phrases broken onto the next line. The whole phrase needs to be in same line. Ms needs to work on This some more.
