App Store

iTunes Store or App Store giving you problems today?

We've gotten a ton of feeback this morning about the iTunes Store or App Store being down, inaccessible, or just plain ornery this morning. Some of us here at iMore can get to it fine, others can't get to it at all. Apple's System Status tools shows an issue over the last hour or so:

Shocker: People are uploading porn to Vine

Earlier this week Twitter launched their new, concise video service, Vine. And, just like we predicted -- surprise, surprise -- some people have been using it for porn ads and penis shots. This is cause for comment not only because of the content itself, but because a short time ago Apple removed the 500px app due to what they claimed was "pornographic" content (rather than artistic nudity).

Apple removes photography app 500px over nudity concerns

Apple has removed the photography app 500px from the App Store over concerns that images of nudity are too easy to find. And... wow, unless there's some huge part of this story we still don't know, the jokes, ridicule, frustration, face-palming, condemnations, complaints, and triple entendres pretty much all write themselves. What makes this even more asinine is that the update that got 500px pulled was the one designed to make nude images even harder to find.

How to easily, automatically take multiple, multi-language screenshots for App Store submissions

With Apple's recent freeze on App Store screenshot updates, developers now have to make sure they have usable artwork ready and set when they hit the submit button. No more week(s)-long review cycle and vague plans to fix it later. That can add to the stress of a launch or update, especially if multiple language versions are needed for multiple, regional App Stores. Daniel Jalkut of Mars Edit fame, however, has shared some tips on Bitsplitting that could save developers a lot of time and frustration.

Apple removes anytime screenshot updates to combat scam apps

Time was you could create any simple app you wanted, get it approved, then sneak back in and change the screenshots displayed in the App Store to make it look like your scam app was Minecraft or Pokemon or any damn thing you pleased. That time's over. Apple today announced that when an app is approved with a certain set of screenshots, it stays with those screenshots unless and until a developer submits an update for approval.

Apple restores app gifting to iOS App Store, shows they can update Share Sheets dynamically

Apple has restored the ability to gift apps from the iPhone and iPad App Stores, something that was previously possible but went missing when iOS 6 shipped last fall. What's even more interesting is that Apple was able to add a feature to the Share Sheet over HTTP. (There was no firmware update, the new gifting option simply showed up in the grid.)

Google insiders reportedly concerned Apple won't approve Google Maps app for iOS

While Google has been working on a new Google Maps app for iOS, the question has been raised as to whether or not the app will be approved. Google apparently wishes to launch the app by the end of the year, but certain circles within the company are wondering if Apple will draw out the approval process for the app or reject it outright.

Base European App Store prices rise from €0.79 to €0.89

According to numerous European readers, the lowest App Store price tier has just changed from €0.79 to €0.89 (to put that in rough perspective, imagine the U.S. base price going from $0.99 to $1.12). Whether that reflects updated exchange rates or other factors of doing business in Europe, including taxes and other charges, is unknown at this time.

If you're seeing higher prices in your local App Store, let us know what they are, and what the difference is.

UPDATE: Federico Viticci of MacStories has confirmed price changes in 15 countries, and a switch to local currencies in 8.
