Apple Vs Samsung

Samsung makes fun of iPhone users, fails to show Galaxy Note features, in Super Bowl attack ad

Samsung has aired another of their good-natured iPhone attack ads, which should be an occasion for merriment and ego-prickly good fun. But once again the commercial feels like it missed it's mark. Or rather, the whole series of commercials still seem awkwardly in search of a mark. This one stars the latest in Samsung's broad-range of devices, each separate by a different Galaxy monicker and roughly 0.25-inches of screen size, the Galaxy Note. It's something that can't quite make up it's mind between being a phone and a tablet -- I'm not going to call it a phablet -- and that's either the best of both worlds... or the worst. The jury is still out. How big is it? 5.3-inches of HD Super AMOLED big, baby. (Yes, that's exactly inverse the iPhone's traditional 3.5-inches.)

It's also got a stylus.

Acer, Samsung announce iCloud, Photo Stream, AirPlay competitors

It seems Acer and Samsung didn't even wait for CES 2012 to official start before announcing AcerCloud, PicStream, and SwipeIt, or basically what Apple announced in 2011. Acer was up first with a service called AcerCloud that sounds suspiciously like iCloud, even substituting PicStream for Photo Stream. Hmm...

Apple denied injunction in the U.S., licensed patent to Nokia and IBM, fighting FRAND with Motoro

We haven't really been keeping up with all the myriad legal maneuverings in the ongoing -- and going, and going -- legal disputes between Apple and accused "copyist" Samsung, as well as other Android manufacturers like Motorola, but there have been some injunctions granted, refused, overturned, and asked for review. If you're thinking there's just too much of this stuff and no one cares who's not a lawyer on one of their payroll, well, fair enough. Here are the highlights/lowlights.

Samsung mocks Apple iPhone users in Galaxy S II commercial

Interesting new ad/tactic from Samsung, painting those devoted Apple users who line up from the iPhone 4S as fanboy hipster sheep whose faces are stuck to the blogs -- reading about battery life issues and lack of design changes -- until a giant-screened, 4G powered, Galaxy S II tears them away.

Also interesting that Samsung only focuses on the size of the screen and speed of the radio -- and not at all about the Android operating system that runs it.

Make anyone want to dump their new iPhone for a Galaxy S II?
