Apple files to ban Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in U.S.

Late last week Apple filed a preliminary injunction against Samsung's flagship tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The move comes shortly after an appeal which partially confirmed that Apple's design patent infringement complaint was valid. This might put just a slight damper on the settlement talks Apple and Samsung had scheduled for today. Apple proposed to give Samsung until May 25 (this Friday) to respond.

On the eve of settlement talks, Samsung talks settlement with Apple

With court-madated settlement talks between Apple CEO Tim Cook and Samsung CEO Choi Gee-Sung scheduled to begin tomorrow, Samsung Mobile's JK Shin took a moment to discuss the potential for resolution. According to Reuters:

"There is still a big gap in the patent war with Apple but we still have several negotiation options including cross-licensing," Shin told reporters at Seoul airport shortly before his departure for the United States.

Apple claims Samsung willfully spoiled evidence pertinent to court cases

Earlier this month, Apple filed a complaint with a California judge claiming that Samsung was intentionally destroying documents relevant to their ongoing legal spat. Apparently Samsung only handed over a small number of documents that they were ordered to provide, and Apple claims that deleting e-mails is standard practice for Samsung even when they're in the middle of a lawsuit.

Apple wants to bar Steve Jobs biography as evidence in Samsung court case

Samsung and Apple have made some pretty interesting evidence requests in recent joint court filings. Apple is specifically asking that Walter Isaacson's official biography of Steve Jobs isn't admitted as any kind of evidence, likely considering it illustrates Jobs' unbridled ire for Android, and that it would color Apple's complaints as founded on emotion rather than technology

Tim Cook tells competitors to invent their own stuff -- Apple is not the world's developer

Apple CEO Tim Cook was asked during Apple's Q2 2012 conference call how he felt about ongoing patent litigation, and whether he might be more open to a settlement or resolution than his predecessor, Steve Jobs might have been. Cooks answer was pretty much the same now as it was before he became CEO -- he doesn't like litigation, but he also doesn't like other companies using what he feels are Apple innovations to sell competing products.

Apple and Samsung CEOs meeting to discuss patent settlements

Apple and Samsung CEOs will be meeting in San Francisco within the next 90 days to hopefully put an end to their ongoing patent feud. This was partially forced by Northern District of California judge Lucy Koh, who ordered that both parties reexamine their availability for Alternative Dispute Resolution.
