iPhone Isn't Expensive Enough, Says Expert

And you thought the iPhone was already expensive? Author and Pricing "expert" Rafi Mohammed believes Apple could (and should) have charged more than its current subsidized price of $499 and $599. Sound crazy? I think so too.

When a tipster sent word that some people were already loitering around the Apple Store in NYC I was immediately skeptical. Then I was sent this link and nearly fell on my knees laughing, then later crying as the terrible realization of the implications this has on my prospects of getting an iPhone on Friday. From the Department of Highway Robbery comes word that AT&T will be impossing an additional $175 early termination fee for customers who back out of their contract. Ouch!

Granted, early termination sanctions are nothing new in the wireless industry. Many years ago I once had to pony up $300 to free myself from the shackles of Centennial Wireless (a carrier I recommend avoiding), so this is nothing new. But this story points out the unrestricted power that carriers extend over enslaved customers. Rather like our our government, wouldn't you say?

Hang on a sec, there's a knock at my door. Some nice gentlemen in a black van just pulled into my driveway. Be right back...
