Samsung is taking a 3% stake in Japanese company Sharp, a major Apple component supplier. Sharp will use Samsung’s $110 million investment to show bank lenders that their LCD business continues to be viable. Interestingly, Sharp is not only a long-time partner of Apple, but also a long-time rival of Samsung. The two companies have historically been competitors in both the display panel and television markets. Samsung’s investment signals a change in that relationship, as well as a boon for Samsung, as Min-Jeong Lee And Juro Osawa of the Wall Street Journal report:

Samsung has announced a new API for developers to help manage event tickets, boarding passes, memberships, and coupons. Samsung Wallet will be a new application which brings all of these types of content into one place. Time and location-based push notifications will help users get a hold of the ticketing information.

Phil Nickinson and Alex Dobie of are on the ground at Mobile World Congress, and they've just gone hands-on with the all new Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, a tablet that sits roughly between the iPad 4 and iPad mini in size, but boasts the Wacom-style digitizer-gone-mobile that Samsung's Note line is famous for. Samsung has released its latest ad which will also be the ad it will show during this Sunday’s Super Bowl. Samsung has a long running ad campaign that tries to make fun of Apple and this one is no different. In the ad, you can see three guys sitting around a table brainstorming ideas for the actual ad.
British retailers are recommending the Samsung Galaxy S3 more times than any other device according to a mystery shopper survey. The survey showed some retailers offering the iPhone 5 while other manufacturers like Motorola and RIM had little to know presence at all. The survey was carried out by Informa Telecoms and Media who spoke with eight of the top UK retailers.
A new survey from 451 Research's ChangeWave service on smartphone buyers in North America shows that while demand for the iPhone has dropped from the its last survey period, one in two likely smartphone buyers plan on purchasing an iPhone 5 within the next 90 days. Apple continued its impressive record of customer satisfaction, with 71% of respondents saying they were “Very Satisfied” with their iPhone.
Samsung hasn't wasted anytime taking advantage of Apple’s problems with its Maps app in Australia. In a strange marketing campaign in Sydney, Samsung set up a muddied 4 x 4 vehicle in the city center with a tent and other camping supplies strewn around it, making it appear that the owners were lost.
It's widely known that, as Samsung re-invented themselves as a modern smartphone maker, they took considerable, almost absurd, inspiration from Apple. Yet copying design may not have been the only way Samsung used Apple's work to slingshot themselves to the top of the smartphone marketshare charts. Unlike every other Android manufacturer on the planet, Samsung was and is also Apple's manufacturing partner, and that might have given them a huge advantage in terms of financed capacity and knowledge of future plans.
What does it take to try and push more Samsung Galaxy devices than Apple iPhones and iPads? An incredible amount of advertising and marketing money, apparently. When compared not only to Apple and Microsoft, but even ad-heavy companies like Coca Cola, Samsung's run rate looks even more ludicrously large.
