Cosori Original 6qt Pressure Cooker

Popular pick

Instant Pot DUO60 6 Qt Multi-Use Cooker

While it seems like Instant Pot has taken over the pressure cooker industry, Cosori is an excellent alternative. It comes with the same preset programs to replace seven kitchen appliances but with six different pressure levels, and this particular size feeds the average sized family — with leftovers. It comes with some useful accessories that would be sold separately with Instant Pot. Plus, the pressure release button makes it safer for Quick Release of steam.

Pros

  • Replaces seven kitchen appliances
  • Feeds 4-6 people with leftovers
  • Six pressure levels
  • Comes with all necessary components along with extras.
  • Has a pressure release button that's safer to use

Cons

  • You'll need to learn to adjust recipes — most are written for Instant Pot

The Instant Pot is the popular choice when it comes to pressure cookers, and for good reason. The DUO model sells the best and it comes in three different sizes to fit your family's needs. Most recipes out there are also already tailored for Instant Pot cooking. However, it's a bit more expensive than the competition, and you'll need to purchase optional accessories separately.

Pros

  • Replaces seven kitchen appliances
  • Comfortably feeds about 4-6 people with leftovers
  • High and low-pressure levels, three temperature levels for sauté
  • Most pressure cooker recipes are tailored for Instant Pot.
  • Comes in three sizes (3, 6, and 8-quart)

Cons

  • Pressure release is a valve knob that isn't as safe as a button.
  • Other accessories are sold separately.

Even though the Instant Pot is probably the most well-known brand out there when it comes to pressure cookers, it's not the end-all-be-all. Cosori actually ends up being a better value for many people, and it works just as well as the Instant Pot.

The breakdown

Even though I'm a big Instant Pot fan, I must admit, the Cosori is definitely appealing. The fact that it's cheaper than the Instant Pot, has a pressure release button instead of a loose-fitting knob, and has multiple pressure levels for various foods is drawing me in. Plus, it comes with a tempered glass lid for slow cooking or serving food and a spare sealing ring at no extra cost.

However, as you scour the Internet for great pressure cooker recipes, it's important to know that most are geared towards Instant Pot models and the default "Manual" or "Pressure Cook" mode, which is high pressure (unless otherwise stated as low pressure). Since the Cosori has six pressure levels that are numbered, keep in mind that "1" is low pressure (great for vegetables) and "6" is high pressure. Everything else is in-between, though Cosori recommends "2" for seafood since it's delicate.

The Cosori's pressure release button is also smartly placed in the center of the lid, with the steam valve off to the side. This keeps your hands safe from hot steam, and it's much easier to use than the knob on the Instant Pot.

Cosori also packs in a tempered glass lid and an extra silicone sealing ring for customers. The tempered glass lid is great for slow cooking, steaming (with the Steam function), or protecting the food as you serve it. Silicone sealing rings always wear out over time, so you'll need to eventually replace it, but Cosori just gives you one for free. You can also use one ring for savory dishes and the other for sweet desserts.

The accessories that the Cosori comes with are a big factor for those who are looking for a good value. For $20 more, the Instant Pot doesn't provide a lid or extra sealing ring for you; you'll need to purchase those yourself.

However, the Instant Pot is not a bad option either. Since the Cosori only comes in a 6 qt size, Instant Pot does offer more variety in sizes (3, 6, and 8-quart sizes) to fit you and your family's needs. Instant Pot also has fantastic customer service, so if anything goes wrong with your Instant Pot, a representative will be more than happy to help you out. Plus, as mentioned earlier, most recipes out there are already tailored for Instant Pot models, so using it will be much more straightforward.
