Apple SVP of retail, John Browett, addresses Apple Stores, stresses people and service

Apple's new senior vice president of retail, John Browett, gave his quarterly address to Apple Store employees last night. While normally routine and not exactly newsy, it follows a series of staffing and PR gaffs that have raised concerns about Browett's role and Apple's devotion to its experience-over-profit model. Recent Apple Retail screw-ups rumored not to be solved, emblematic of larger, post-Jobs problem

While new Apple Retail head John Browett reportedly apologized and reversed recent staffing decisions that threatened the phenomenal experience of Apple Stores, it's now being rumored that the apologies weren't exactly sincere, weren't actually given to the staff, and may reflect a new, more profit-oriented, less customer-centric, direction instigated by Apple CEO Tim Cook and CFO Peter Oppenheimer.

Apple summer camp program to get kids to make movies

Apple has just kicked off a free summer camp program where kids 8 - 12 get to make a movie with the help of Apple Store staff. The three-day program includes creating a soundtrack on GarageBand on an iPad, editing footage on iMovie for Mac, and a final showcase event for friends and family.

Iranian Americans denied sale of Apple goods due to export policy

Americans of Iranian descent have been having a hard time picking up iPhones and iPads in the state of Georgia due to a U.S. import ban that has translated into a sale policy at Apple stores. On multiple occasions, shoppers were heard by Apple Store managers speaking Farsi and denied service.

Apple quietly releases new iPad Smart Case

Apple quietly released a new iPad Smart Case, amongst the many other announcements at WWDC 2012.

When the Apple Store went back online shortly after the keynote, many people noticed that Apple had snuck in a new iPad accessory into the store, 'The iPad Smart Case."

The 'Smart Case' is compatible with both the iPad 2 and the new iPad, and covers both the front and back of the device, giving your device extra protection. It's made out polyurethane and works with all current 'Smart Covers', giving you the same functionality, in both 'typing' and 'watching' positions. You can customise your 'Smart Case' with Apple's free lazer engraving service.

Apple Store goes offline, get ready to start pounding "refresh"

Apple's online store has been taken offline for "maintenance", which is better known as "putting up some super-sweet new products that are announced at WWDC". iOS 6 is pretty much a given, but it's probably too optimistic to expect an iPhone 5 being put on presale.

Apple aims to open more flagship stores in China

Chinese officials have confirmed that Apple is looking to open new stores in Chengdu and Shenzhen, the home town of Apple's major manufacturing partner, Foxconn. Apple only has to get an environmental permit before having final approval for the Shenzhen store, while the Chengdu location has been approved since late May.

Apple retail staff to enjoy raise earlier than expected

Apple retail employees will be getting salary increases June 30, a full three months ahead of the originally scheduled September date. The announcement was made by newly-appointed Senior VP of Apple Retail John Browett through an internal video, Raises will vary from 1% - 5%, depending on store performance, but this early advance is likely to be a one-time thing.

Apple Store-within-a-Walmart: the future, or the end of days?

There have been Apple Stores inside Best Buy (and their subsidiary, Future Shop in Canada) for a long time now, but Walmart? Admittedly, I haven't been to Walmart in years, but last time I did the most they had in there was a McDonalds. Well, times change and Apple Retail just keeps building or building.
