Extend your photo's background with AntiCrop for iPhone and iPad

AntiCrop is an iPhone and iPad app that will extend the background your photos as a method of "uncropping" them. It's similar to Content Aware Fill in Photoshop CS5 and works surprisingly well.

Leanna's most-used iPhone and iPad apps of 2011

Like Rene, my most-used apps of 2011 are probably the built in iPhone and iPad Safari browser, Mail app, and Reminders, Calendars, etc. via Siri. That's just the nature of the job. But since I'm TiPb's resident app editor, I also get to spend time with an incredible amount and array of App Store apps. Here are the ones I spent the most of my time with this year.

How to create a collage of photos for Instagram

There are hundreds of thousands of iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad apps for just about everything -- so how come the one you need, the one you know just has to be there, is so hard to find? Enter TiPb's new weekly feature where staff and readers alike sort through the App Store and help you find just the right App for That. This week, @llofte (yes, that's me!) asks:

What app is it that I see people use with Instagram to make a collage/storyboard of more than one photo?

To see what was suggested to me, follow along after the break!

Skitch now available on iPad

Evernote has released the popular photo drawing application, Skitch, for the iPad. With Skitch, you can annotate your photos and screenshots with shapes, arrows, sketches and text.

I have always been a huge fan of Skitch and I'm so excited to see it on the iPad. I often use Skitch for Mac to edit screenshots for tips that I post here on TiPb, but now I'll save some time using my iPad, instead. The best part? It's free!

Hipstamatic Disposable by Synthetic Corp now available

Hipstamatic Disposable is Synthetic Corp's new photography app that brings a new twist to the idea of a social photography. With Hipstamatic Disposable, you take pictures as if you have a roll of film and you can't see the photos until the film gets "developed". However, you can share this roll of film with your friends so that they can contribute to the photos taken on the film. Once the film is used up, it gets developed and all the contributors have access to all the photos. Oh, and did I mention that the photos get processed with filters that Synthetic Corp is famous for?

I both love and hate this app. I love the concept, absolutely love it. It's going to be fun to share rolls of film on Christmas since about 8 of us have an iPhone or iPod touch and can contribute to taking pictures. But I hate how much of the screen is taken up by the graphics of a camera. It's kind of cool, but not practical. I need a bigger viewfinder, not a shutter button that takes up half the screen! I also hate the in-app purchase system. I am more than happy to purchase new cameras that use different filters, but Synthetic Corp requires that you buy rolls of film so that you have to continue making purchases if you want to take more pictures. It's $0.99 for a 9 pack, $1.99 for a 36 pack, and $4.99 for a 99 pack.

Apply vintage filters to your photos and share to Instagram with RetroGram for iPhone

RetroGram is a new iPhone app that lets you layer multiple vintage filters onto you photos and share instantly to Instagram. It comes with 12 filters with dozens available as in-app purchases.

What I love about RetroGram is that once you have your photo edited like you want, sharing to Instagram actually takes you out of RetroGram and opens the photo in the Instagram app. This allows you to add an Instagram filter or effect before posting to Instagram. If you have other photography apps installed, you can also open your edited photos in there instead of Instagram.

App for That: How to edit the IPTC info on a photo

There are hundreds of thousands of iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad apps for just about everything -- so how come the one you need, the one you know just has to be there, is so hard to find? Enter TiPb's new weekly feature where staff and readers alike sort through the App Store and help you find just the right App for That. This week, tedwang asks:

I'm kind of shocked I haven't found an app that can add captions to photos. Actually I'm surprised that Apple's own photo app doesn't do this. I don't mean a caption ON the photo -- more in the metadata. This is so I can keep track of what I'm taking a photo of. And I don't want to have to share it on Facebook or Twitter to caption the photo.

What tedwang is specifically looking for, is a way to edit the IPTC info on a photo. To see what we found for him, follow along after the break!

Photogene² for iPhone hits the App Store, offers one in-app purchase to Photogene owners for free!

The new photo editing app, Photogene² for iPhone, is now available. The original Photogene was a major hit, and Omer Shoor now brings a completely redone interface and new features.

Photogene was always one of my favorite photo editing apps, so I downloaded Photogene² without giving it a second thought. I was pleasantly surprised to be immediately offered, as a valued customer of Photogene, an in-app purchase for free! The choices were Go Pro ($6), Collage Templates ($2), or More Frames ($1). I promptly selected Go Pro!

App Giveaway: Snapseed for iPhone and iPad

Snapseed is a premium photo editing app for iPhone and iPad. You can make adjustments ranging from the basics to more creative things like tilt-shift and special filters.

One of my favorite features of Snapseed is the ability to make adjustments to specific areas of the photo with Nik Software’s U Point technology. Snapseed makes pro-level editing easy for the average user.
