Yahoo! Messenger app with 3G video chat now live in App Store

On Sunday we told you that Yahoo! sent in their update to Apple for the Messenger app to allow for 3G video calling -- well today the update is live in the iTunes App Store.

Not only will you now be able to better communicate with others Yahoo! Messenger users on iPhones but you will be able to chat with anyone who has a front facing camera on their phones. Even bigger news than that is the ability to video chat between a phone and the computer version of Yahoo! Messenger. This brings a whole new potential to having the iPhone 4 as well as any smartphone with a front facing camera.

Will you be downloading the newest update to this app? Does the potential for phone to computer video chat excite you? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

TulioAdriano says:

I don't get why Skype didn't offer this yet. If they don't act fast, Y!M will take some serious public really quick.

Isaac says:

Yeahh it sucks bad quality

AG says:

Downloaded Already 

BeyondtheTech says:

I'm told it works between Windows' Yahoo Messenger and the iPhone 4, but not Mac's version? WTF?

dloveprod says:

It works great, tried calling two pc's wifi and 3G. Gonna try video calling from my Mac in a min, notifications pop up quick too.

Ismael says:

It Does not support iPod touch 4g!!! It's kinda stupid.

Glenn#IM says:

So it will work wifi also?

dloveprod says:

Video chatting doesn't work with a mac yet, maybe they'll put out an update soon

Nick says:

I agree with everyone else. I got my whole family across 5 different states connected via SKYPE, but if SKYPE doesn't get their "Stuff" together in like a month, I'll switch without any hesitation.

BrianTufo says:

Yeah I'm a little upset it doesn't work with a Mac yet but I'm sure it will happen soon!

Imran says:

Its still not detecting on my Windows PC whether Im using a video version of Yahoo on my iphone 4, the video and voice function on Yahoo desktop version is still disabled as well as when I try calling from iphone 4 to Windows Yahoo, there's no message on Yahoo desktop to receive the video or voice call.
Yahoo seems being in a hurry to launch rather then verifiying all these problems.

BrianTufo says:

Voice from iPhone 4 to Mac works fine for me just no video yet but the Mac version is still Beta 3.0 so I'm sure they will update soon.

ghostface147 says:

No retina display upgrade?

anthonok says:

@ghostface no devs support retina (over exaggerating I know) but it's really disappointing getting an app and ffinding out that it looks like crap. Apple needs to make retina support mandatory! I'm sticking to that!

BrianTufo says:

@Anthonok I'd agree with that. Non-retina icons and graphics just look bad on the retina display.

BrianTufo says:

I just tested it out with a family member on their Windows laptop. Quality wasn't the greatest but it also wasn't terrible with full 3G. Now it just needs an update for the Mac software!

anthonok says:

@Brian yeah and if makes apple look bad. They should fix that haha

BrianTufo says:

They need to fix it but I don't think it makes Apple look bad, it makes Yahoo! look bad.

Aaron Schultz says:

So....no iPod Touch 4 support? Lameness to the max times three.

Jacojic says:

I downloaded the app, tried chatting with my brother, app froze, waited awhile, nothing happened, tried resetting the phone, no im left with a bricked phone. Be careful.

Aaron Schultz says:

Also: The fact that the new app doesn't support iPod Touch 4 gives skype an opportunity to one-up Yahoo, if they act fast before Yahoo inevitably updates their app to include ipod support.

Andy says:

No video from Apple iPhone to Apple Mac? What a huge bag of fail that is.
Of course, FaceTime is in the same boat...

Tony Smith says:

I just tested it and it seems to work great for me.

BrianTufo says:

@Jaco it didn't "brick" your phone. If it froze hold power and home together till phone shuts off then turn it back onand all will be well.
