App Store apps go (RED) to help raise money to fight AIDS

A number of popular App Store apps are updating tonight with product (RED) branding, and adding in-app purchases (IAP) whose proceeds will go to help fund AIDS research. The promotion will last until December 7 and you can find details for each participating app's IAP in their App Store descriptions.

Apple's own GarageBand, for example, is introducing a new (GarageBand) RED Loop Pack, available as a $0.99 in-app purchase (IAP). 100% of the proceeds will go towards fighting AIDS. Third-party developers are also joining in the spirit of giving, with special levels, expansion packs, or episodes available to buy as (red) IAP.

  • But sadly the money goes to waste to "help" HIV and AIDS in Africa, rather than help the people in our country better afford medicines that still cost too much out of pocket to afford.
  • The cost is because of the way our insurance is set up. Don't see how they can start a campaign for that. To fix that we need *gasp* regulation. But this is the land of the free, so we're also free to go broke paying for this shizz. Posted from the amazing whatever device I can afford because I'm a broke college kid.
