iMore on Prime Day: What deals did our writers and editors pick up?
We love tech here at iMore. Obviously, Apple is always going to be number one in our hearts, but that doesn't mean we don't love a good bargain when we see it! From car cleaning gel to AirPods and sim wheels, the iMore team has bought some interesting stuff at some truly amazing prices. Let's tell you why we bought them — and why you should too!
Gerald Lynch, Editor-in-Chief
Gerald has taken the plunge on a new PS5 controller — here's his reasoning for the buy:
"I'm slowly re-introducing my lapsed-gamer girlfriend back into the fold of the gaming flock. It started with a Mega Drive (Genesis) Mini, progressed to 500-odd cleared levels of Grindstone on Apple Arcade, and is now at the PS4 jump-scare fest stage of Little Nightmares. Next up is some PS5 play... but the pads have been way too expensive since launch to pick up a pair for some two-player action. With Prime Day, that changes. We'll be picking up a DualSense controller in Midnight Black, making a 22% saving off RRP in the process. GAME ON!"
DualSense Midnight Black Wireless Controller | Was $70 now $59 at Amazon
A great controller for a great system, now available in loads of colors! Those adaptive triggers will make those FPS games more intuitive and immersive, along with improving racing games and the like.
Stephen Warwick, News Editor
Stephen didn't grab anything this Prime Day, but he almost got an Apple TV 4K — here's his takeaway:
"The deal that almost got me is the Apple TV 4K. I already own one, but a second one for the office or bedroom was almost too tempting. This is a marvelous device but it has always been a tough sell because of the price. However, if you don't already own one, this Prime Day price is a steal at $109, and it finally makes sense."
2021 Apple TV 4K (32GB) | SOLD OUT at Amazon; was $180 now $120 at Best Buy
Get stunning entertainment and performance plus brilliant integration with the Apple ecosystem with the Apple TV 4K. It's going quickly on Amazon but thankfully, if they run out of stock, Best Buy also has a fantastic deal on the device, at $60 off.
Bryan M. Wolfe, Staff Writer
Longtime staff writer Bryan got a hold of some really cool stuff this Prime Day, here's what caught his eye:
"I bought very little on Prime Day, but this caught my attention because my car is always crummy inside. I figured I could spend $5.73 plus tax instead of $10 and have a clean car in the process. It flew off the Amazon shelves, so obviously I wasn't the only one."

Cleaning Gel for Car | Was $10 now $6 at Amazon
This cleaning gel for the car comes in a vibrant color and is fun to hold as you use it to get into the tightest of spaces. It can pick up crumbs, dirt, dust, and more; leaving you with an optimally clean vehicle.
Luke Filipowicz, Staff Writer
Staff Writer and host of the iMore show Luke didn't grab anything this Prime Day, but has some advice if you're looking for a microphone;
'As a host of the iMore Show, it's essential that I have a good-quality audio, and the HyperX QuadCast S has been my go-to USB microphone for a while now. With four different recording patterns, it's able to handle so many different situations, and it has excellent gain control that ensure background noise is never an issue. Not to mention that rainbow RBG lighting is gorgeous! I wish I waited until Prime Day to pick up the HyperX QuadCast S because this is such a good deal!'
HyperX QuadCast S | Was $159 now $112
The HyperX QuadCast S does everything it promises to do. While it certainly is not a studio-grade microphone (no USB microphone really is), it records beautiful clear audio in various scenarios. The background noise it picks up is extremely manageable by lowering the gain and bringing the mic closer to your desired sound source. Plus, the built-in pop filter is a welcome addition.
Karen Freeman, Contributor
Karen grabbed a pair of AirPods 2 in a mega Prime Day AirPods Deal — here's what she had to say:
"I've been writing about Apple since 2010 (with a year-long break to work at the Apple Store) and while I'm quite knowledgable about AirPods, I never actually bought a pair until this Prime Day. After all, as a reviewer, I have plenty of other earbuds that are perfectly good. But this Prime Day there's a deal that brought the AirPods 2 under $90, which got me to finally pull the trigger on those AirPods 2 and guess what? I immediately fell in love."
AirPods 2 | SOLD OUT at Amazon; Was $124 now $100 at Walmart
Still a solid option for those looking to grab a pair of AirPods without spending too much money, the AirPods 2 deliver Apple-style sound and slick connectivity with Apple devices. Currently sold out on Amazon, but you can grab a similar great deal at Walmart, where it's about $25 off.
Oliver Haslam, News Writer
Oli didn't pick up anything this Prime Day, but he's got his eye on a battery pack — here's his take:
"I haven't actually picked anything up yet this Prime Day, but a cheap Apple MagSafe Battery Pack is something that I've always kept my eyes out for. Amazon has slashed 19% off the normal $99 asking price this week and while it's still not cheap, it's starting to get to that price point where I'm tempted to get one just in case it comes in handy. I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max that rarely runs dry, but iOS 16 betas are working hard at changing that so I might have to pick one of these up stat!"
Apple MagSafe Battery Pack | Was $99 now $80 at Amazon
Saving 19% on anything with an Apple logo is pretty good, including right now. Here, Amazon offers the MagSafe Battery Pack for just $80 with $19 off the original asking price. The charger itself is a great way to wirelessly charge your iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 while on the move and is perfect for road warriors too.
Tammy Rogers, Deals and Buying Guides Writer
Given she already spends all her time staring at deals, it's no wonder Tammy had a ball on Prime Day — here's what she picked up:
"I am, at heart, a racing fan. I keep track of as many racing series as I possibly can, and then drive them all in sims on my Xbox. Oddly, though, it's always been with a controller, rather than any form of wheel — all that can change now, as I picked up the Logitech G920 for Xbox. It'll hook up to my system super easy and I'll be able to race around with it and feel like I'm actually in the car with the force feedback. As soon as I saw that there was a massive $110 off at Amazon, I just couldn't say no. Now to find a cockpit..."
Logitech G920 Driving Force Racing Wheel | Was $300 now $190 at Amazon
A force feedback sim wheel with a leather wheel and metal pedals. It's compatible with Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and your best Mac, and will connect with all the best racing games.
Aaliyah Pasols, Copy Editor
Aaliyah evidently had a great time this Prime Day, picking up some great photography gear — here's what she had to say:
"In my spare time, I love to go out and take pictures of anything that catches my eye — and living in New York City definitely provides unlimited opportunities for a cool shot. This Prime Day, I couldn't help myself from purchasing the Liene 4x6 Wi-Fi Photo Printer, which is currently $114 on Amazon. It's 25% off today, a worthy deal for one of the best photo printers out there. The Liene Printer effortlessly produces gorgeous, clear 4x6 photos over a Wi-Fi connection, whether you have an iPhone, Android, laptop, or PC. We reviewed the Liene Printer and loved that it also comes with a handy app that allows you to add frames and filters to your photos — plus, it alerts you when you're running low on ink. How cool is that?"
Liene 4x6 Wi-Fi Photo Printer | Was $151 now $114 at Amazon
Print photos over a Wi-Fi connection, from your laptop, phone, or PC. A really great saving on what is one of the best photo printers out there.
