France Telecom Exec Confirms Apple iTablet with Webcam
Did France Telecom/Orange exec Stéphane Richard just get caught off guard enough to confirm the immanent arrival of Apple's iTablet/iSlate, with a webcam? NowhereElse.fr has the video clip (go to 6:10 to see the relevant bit), and Techcrunch provides the translation for those who don't understand French:
Jean-Pierre Elkabbach: According to weekly Le Point, in a couple of days Apple will be launching its tablet computer …
Stéphane Richard: Yes.
Jean-Pierre Elkabbach: … equipped with a webcam.
Stéphane Richard: Yes.
Jean-Pierre Elkabbach: Are Orange customers going to be able to enjoy it?
Stéphane Richard: Of course!
We're still waiting on Apple to announce it (or announce the rumored Jan. 27 announcement!), however. And word on whether or not Steve Jobs has hopped a plane to France, ready to kung-fu death-touch his loose lipped Euro carrier partner...

Nice I want one
Yesssssssssss can't wait already have my 2k..... I'm going to camp out to br the first one 2 buy it..
This I believe. CEOs tend not to make stuff up.
That said, who wants to bet there's a contract clause that kicks in that hurts the company.
cool! Wonder how much it's going to cost?
Most likely it will cost 5 arms and 12 legs and a heart as well
@P2Hero: So, since it would cost you 5 arms and 12 legs. This must mean that you are one ugly deformed person. Does getting rid of those limbs bring you back down to 2 arms and 2 legs? If so it's a good deal because you get corrective stuff done AND a tablet!
Christopher Sucks why so serious?
If the tablet reports are true then the part about the new media/content service for publishers is likely to also be true. I wonder what kind of goodness that will yield. Think about it for a second. Wake up and turn on your TV/AppleTV with all of your daily content ready for a quick scan. Pick the items you want to view for the day and store/throw out the rest. Transfer the reading list to your iPhone, Mac or Tablet and read/review over breakfast. Save the rest for later in the day or another day. Maybe use Genius to select some light music to read/watch by. Music fades in and out depending upon if the content has audio as part of its feed. Tie the viewing experience to links to other content that may allow you to go into more detail on the subject. This could all lead to some real awesomeness.
@P2hero if it costs more than $399-$499. FAIL. no way no how i'd pay $500+ for it. that would be ridiculous. it wouldnt even be competitive. $599-$999 for a slate... apple would be falling off the deep end.
I expected it to have a webcam... iChat Mobile =D
Wow people can be so mean !!!
Schweet!!!
Awesome - glad to see the webcam.
Price is going to be a major factor for me as I won't be getting another contract alongside my iPhone to own a tablet so will be buying it oem. That's presuming it needs 3g and it's not more like the touch.
Any rumors about a possible HDMI port for external viewing?
Yawn...
sounds like he is just agreeing that le point said that... not that it is actually happening. lol. jk.
cant....wait.... hopefully it uses the same ipa program format as the iphone/ipod
Tweaking of the translation on the BBC blog site makes this story a bit sweeter. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/rorycellanjones/2010/01/afrenchorangeandanapplet.html
Still Sting7k,... even i will be happy if you are excited when they announce it and what it does.
Whatever the case is, they better allow current iPhone owners to tether to the device. I won't pay for two contracts.
Two things: 1 I am beginning to have buyer's remorse over that Christmas Macbook Air purchase (like John Gruber thinking the tablet may be the new-laptop-form) and 2 Reading The Reptile's post, I remember that cool videopad I first saw in 2001 A Space Odyssey - are we really about to get it?
Lots of Fantastic information in your post, I bookmarked your blog so I can visit again in the near future, All the Best, Rodney Mervis
